How's this leaf peepin' itinerary?

We're planning a trip to the East Coast in October 2009. Here is a tentative itinerary - would like comments/suggestiions.

October 3-10 Newport, RI - timeshare already booked
October 10-11 Boston (to be booked)
October 12, 13, 14 Lincoln, NH (probably nightly rental Pollard Brook)
October 15, 16 Acadia Nat'l Park (to be booked) (maybe Bar Harbor Inn)
October 17,18 Maine Coast (to be booked)
October 19, 20 Boston (to be booked)

The reason for the split trip for Boston is to take advantage of the "after Columbus Day" rates at the hotels.

Looks good to me, but here’s the link to Yankee Magazine's (New England’s magazine) recommended fall foliage drives for the New England states: http://www.yankeefoliage.com/drives/

and here’s the link to their interactive fall foliage map: http://www.yankeefoliage.com/peakmap/
which should help in planning your trip.

Where are you staying in Newport? If you have any questions concerning Newport or Bar Harbor be sure to ask. Bar Harbor should be packed because it will be prime leaf peeping season. Be sure to make reservations early.

October is a great time to be in the Newport area. You might want to hang around Newport on the 10th for the first day of their Oktoberfest (www.newportfestivals.com/).

Question

Thanks for the information. I have found a reasonably priced condo in Lincoln for Oct. 10, 11, 12. However, from what I've read, the the leaf peepin' traffic in that area is overwhelming on Columbus Day weekend. Should we avoid the area until after Columbas Day?

Columbus Day weekend will have a lot of leaf peepers driving around New England.

Hey, when you come to Maine---give out a shout---I'll listen.

No, I'm not saying that at all---just trying to alert you that you won't ne the only one out there looking at the BRIGHT reds, oranges and yellows!!!

If you are in an area on Columbus Day where the viewing is great---get out there and VIEW!!! (unless you have MANY days to to so.)

Oh---by the way--- let me say in my opinion, that when they refer to "PEAK" viewing, I think it has already gone by, by a week or so. Just keep that in mind when you read the term "Peak Foliage".
