I live in the Northeast and was looking at Wyndham to add to my Timeshares. I realize the basic concept and time to reserve home resort etc. I also know about max points/low mf in choosing home resort. My question is however---how available are non-home resorts during the window you compete with all other owners? Can you reserve for like 2 nights? Are weekends generally available? I realize it will depend on the resort and by the way--I am thinking of Skyline in AC as home---any owners care to comment?

I have not had a hard time getting a week or weekend here or there. The only place where I know you won't get in is Seawatch Plantation. there summer months get booked up by owners almost immediately, however you can get in at Westwinds or Ocean Blvd without a problem. I think it depends on the resort and the timeframe you are looking at going. If you looking at a prime time - I'd book out at least 10 months out to be safe.:)

I wonder if Seawatch would be a good home resort...hmmmmm

Jim,

Wyndham Skyline Atlantic City has one of the highest MFs in their system.

Just remember that low m/f can be a value trap, and your analysis needs to go a little bit further then that. A low m/f might indicate that reserves are not being fully funded, leading to a special assessment down the road.

I do not have personal experience with Skyline, thought I had seen another thread indicated that was part of the problem with their high m/f now.

thanks guys!....for you owners...if you had to do it again...What resort should I look at and what would be a recommended point value for decent flexibility to play around with?

A resort you can visit and do enjoy visiting it. MF is not too high and not too low, and area you know enough when you do need to make reservation and rent out, you know which week (weekday, or weekend) to get.

There are two sides of the coin to picking a home resort.

If you're not planning to use or rent out the week you own, you want something cheap (not forgetting the risk of special assessments if proper reserves aren't kept).

If you are planning to use or rent out the week you own, you want something that has high demand at least in peak season, which you'll use your 13-month priority to reserve.

It used to be you could reserve your high-demand home week and deposit it into RCI as a high-value trader, but they no longer allow that.

Our ownership is at Seawatch and Ocean Blvd. Stayed at Ocean Blvd and although it is newer and a very nice resort, the pool areas were crowded and parking other than two blocks from the beach was atrocious.
Recently points on ebay have been going dirt cheap.
