United charging fees to use miles for upgrades
Just found out about this on the United site. Starting July 2009, United will start charging you to use your miles to upgrade:
Continental U.S. to/from Hawaii From Y or B class 7,500 miles + $0 - $200 From all other Economy classes 17,500 miles + $250 -$500 Those miles are becoming more and more worthless Jen

While it may be new to you, United told its elites about this many months ago. The one thing that is important here is that they did this only for miles upgrades. E-500's and SWU and CRS 1000's are uneffected by this change.
