Quantas has a great special to New Zealand right now.
$598 round trip through October 24th from LAX to Auckland. $698 from New York.

It's not clear if these fees are one way or round trip. Still a much better price than a year ago.

There'a a huge fare war on right now between the West Coast and Sydney. Yeah, I know, it's not NZ.

$669 all in SFO-SYD r/t on UA. The fare is $350, taxes are $319 on my ticket.

The biggest part of the "taxes" is the YQ (fuel surcharge) and it is possible to dump that with some creative reservation tricks
