Acc. to a FTer, SPG members can now get SP points by staying at WKORV and WKORV-N. If it's true, then it tips the scales even more in Starwood's favor for rentals.

Hmm, rent from an owner for $3000/week or from Starwood for $4200 and pocket 12,600 SPs in the process.

And, of course, it encourages more non-owners to stay there, which increases the maintenance costs without fair compensation to us owners. On the other hand, if people do stay there, maybe they'll become owners and close the gap so that there are less units avail to Starwood to rent out.

I think they are just trying to get more owners to use Starwood's rental service agreement and pocket their 50%. They don't even gaurantee to rent it. Given the generous cancelation police of 24hrs...that is a risk I am just not willing to take. I'd rather bank the points or rent myself.

If I read the FT thread correctly - this is about using SPs to reserve WKORV or WKORVN (not getting SPs) How would one get SPs for staying at WKORV/N - other than spending money at the resort? I believe that this has been available for sometime now.

I was under the impression that folks who used to book rooms at WKORV for cash would not earn SPs on that stay. Am I mistaken?

We owners can earn SPs only by spending money at the resort and/or putting our MFs on our Starwood Amex. I don't believe we earn them from Starwood for our MFs. However, if Starwood is allowing renters to earn SPs now, they should play fair and give us owners StarPoints on our MFs as well.

Oh - I see what the issue is. People who stay at a SPG hotel and pay for their reservation with cash (credit card) get SPs based on the amount paid - and if they use an AMEX SPG card they get even more SPs. Is this correct?

I wouldn't know since I have never used cash to pay for a SPG hotel (on SPs). If so, I see the issue.

We should discuss this with our HOA representative... oh, what a minute... we do not have an assessable HOA representative...

:wall: Maybe, maybe not. My head is spinning.

:D

Correct, but after researching it appears I was wrong. SPG members always got StarPoints for WKORV stays. (Not so with all SVO properties). Which makes me wonder why we're not getting SPs for our MFs? Doesn't seem fair.
