Waiting for an early checkin and being told by the resort you can't check in early.
Paying extra to connect your computer to the internet and it works slowly.
Kitchen frying pans which can only boil water without a major clean up.
Dull knives.
Missing items on the inventory sheet.
Daily calls from the cocierge(TS sales person in disguise)

Rude exchange guests who aren't as careful with the unit as they would be with their own!

Owners Groused Off When They Can't Get Cheap Extra-Night Rentals.

Over at the Yahoo "Group" for Cypress Pointe Phase II & Phase I owners, there's lots of back & forth over whether owners should be able to rent extra nights dirt cheap (subject to availability).

One participant in the discussion is strongly peeved that the rate quoted by the front desk for 1 more night in a 3BR unit was $300.

Others point out that it would take at least 3 motel rooms to accommodate the crowd that can stay in a 3BR Cypress Pointe unit -- & 3 motel rooms would still not give the crowd access to a kitchen, living room, & all the various deluxe on-site amenities of the timeshare.

I feel very strongly both ways.

That is, if units would otherwise go unused (i.e., be wasted), why not let owners have'm for a nightly rate equivalent, say, to 1/7 of an owner's annual fees for the unit ?

Then again, since the only units available for on-the-spot rental are delinquent weeks whose owners have not paid the required fees, & which therefore were seized by the HOA-BOD for nonpayment & which are being rented out to recover money that owners otherwise would have to make up via higher fees, then why not charge all that the traffic will bear ?

Plus, if there are no rental takers at full freight, isn't it better to get something rather than nothing by renting out a delinquent unit dirt cheap to owners ?

It should be extremely simple but in actuality it's semi-complicated.

That I fell for all the lies the t/s salesman told me and I bought it.

I can agree with these! Also:

no storage space for suitcases
dishwasher soap for ONE use - I'm not gonna buy a box for a week
no microwave bowls large enough to cook oatmeal

Deb :)

What bothers us the most are foreigners bashing the USA. On a couple of trips we had Europeans spouting off about our country, and that kind of pissed us off. Even had to listen to some Canadians rant about the USA. These people did finally see the errors of their rant after we started drinking.

Cheap construction so you can hear people upstairs and next door.
Grubby pools and pool areas
Cheap flatware
Superficial cleaning - at least three times in different VA timeshares we have found UNDERWEAR!
electric coil stoves with the coils sticking up at an angle
maintenance issues that should have already been taken care of
and yes, definitely all those annoying phone calls from the "concierge".

Some of these have been mentioned already, but here are the things I wish I would not have, but have found in some timeshares that were excellent in every other way:

1. Inadequate housecleaning, e.g. Condoms under mattress, foil on top of oven heating coil, etc.
2. Noise from neighbors, due to lack of consideration or insufficient sounproofing.
3. Space for only two on the balcony when the unit sleeps 8.
4. Cabinet arrangement so that essentials are out of reach of a woman of average height paired with the absence of a stepstool.
5. Dining areas for far fewer persons than the unit sleeps.
6. Lack of space for luggage.
7. Cheaply made furniture, cabinetry etc that is already falling apart even though the resort is fairly new.

All of the above and, no gas grills. Only charcole grills that haven't been properly cleaned since the resort first opened.

Having to call maintenance to light a gas grill because someone, somewhere, sometime didn't understand how to light one and probably blew the lid off it.

I might have had to ask them what would happen to me if I was running their country down while actually enjoying the hospitality of their home country. I don't mind hearing it when I'm standing on their ground but, if you want to visit my home, it's only polite not to complain about it in front of my face.

Calling it an owners update when it is nothing more than another attempt at a sales pitch.
Implying that if you don't do the "owners update" an additional charge may be placed on your bill at checkout.

Not to start a tit for tat fight here but I think it is equally annoying for the Canadian members of TUG to see Canadians characterized by other TUG members as "ranting foreigners". Quite possibly there are Americans who could be equally guilty of ranting about Canada when on vacation there but you don't see complaints about American visitors to Canada being posted on this board by its Canadian members.

-Requesting an early checkin and then being told the room won't be ready unitl checkin time, and then having to wait even longer after the checkin time arrives.

-Being guaranteed an assigned room and then having it switch to a less desirable unit at checkin

-checking into a nonsmoking unit that reeks of smoke

Cheap and nasty appliances that don't have instruction booklets (or the wrong model instruction booklet). I've had microwaves that can do nothing more than heat water and dishwashers that can't clean coffee cups.

. Mould in the bathroom (or anywhere for that matter).
. Cheap and nasty furniture - tables and chairs that wobble
. No soup spoons (yes I know some countries don't have soup spoons, that's fine, but this was in Australia and we do use soup spoons).
. Greasy bench tops.

What bothers us the most are Americans bashing foreigners. On a couple of trips we had Americans spouting off about our country, and that kind of pissed us off. Even had to listen to some Americans rant about Canada. It got worse after they started drinking. And none of this happened while in the USA.

Do you seriously think the same thing can't be said by pretty much anyone in the world about people of other countries at different points in time?

I agree - while in Mexico I would have to say that the rudest people I met were American. They kept complaining that not everyone spoke English :)

1. Waiting forever for check-in, when rooms are available.
2. Being assigned a room with no view, overlooking the parking lot and dumpster.

Not...

Not enough coat hangers.

Not having a non-stick frying pan.

Carpet so dirty that if you walk across it barefoot the bottom of your feet turn black.

1)No W/D in unit.
2)Cheap cookware.
3)Insufficient space in some units.
4)Inadequate construction/soundproofing.
5)Unhelpful staff.

Condoms under mattress

I was going to post about the early morning pool chair artists (i.e towel squatters), but your post made my pet peeve pale in comparison.

I think yours is the Winner!

Lack of luggage carts to transport belongings from the parking lot to your unit.

When meeting folks from other countries, I NEVER spout off any thing negative about their country, but do try to make light conversation. Im sorry to you Canadians who found this offensive. Just so you know, I do speak Canadian since 2 years ago, A.;)

Daily calls from the cocierge(TS sales person in disguise)

If you want to put an end to the calls, just tell them your spouse is not with you for this stay. You'll never hear from them again! :)

Cheers!
