Ft. Myers tomorrow!

We leave for Ft. Myers tomorrow. First time to this area. anyone have nay "must see or must do" tips? Also any good tips as to where to eat, etc. would be great!

You may want to pay the Causeway toll and go to Ding Darling on Sanibel Island. Perhaps plan to spend the whole day. Ding Darling, other attractions such as the Lighthouse, Captiva, dinner at Timbers or Doc Ford's or somewhere of your choosing.

Just a thought.

Thanks, I definitely was to explore that area, I have read that it is very pretty. I would love to stay there but it is a hard trade.

Ya gonna be bout twenty minutes away from us, we live in Bonita Springs, here are a few recommendations to eat & you didn't say where ya gonna be at in Ft. Myers, Ft. Myers Beach is where to be at Times Square:


We all know that Heavenly Biscuit has the best cinnamon rolls in the area. We also know that Charley's Boat House has the best salad bar. I absolutely like the hush-puppies at Pincher's Crab Shack. They are crispy on the outside and so moist on the inside. They serve them with a Cajun mayonnaise that is so delicious and just slightly spicy.




I know this isn't on the island, but Rib City has some of the best baby back ribs I have ever eaten. I don't even need extra sauce, the meat falls off the bone and the sauce has just enough sweetness for me. They also make their own ranch dressing and I can't say enough about their banana cream pie.




Love Boat ice cream on San Carlos, their chocolate ice cream tastes like frozen pudding. Also, the coconut and of course the raspberry chocolate chunk. The cookies-n-cream is packed full of cookies! They are not skimpy with their scoops at all.


Orpheus for pizza and cheese steaks. Yucatan for the Sunfish Salad (lettuce, red pepper, grilled pineapple, tomato, grilled Tilapia). Doc Ford's for fish tacos, Junkanoo for their portabella sandwich. Sole Café for a wheat bagel with salmon cream cheese spread and iced coffee. Reese's for eggs Benedict. SOB for sesame-encrusted Ahi Tuna on SOB salad & king crab legs.


Fish House- Grouper Tacos, calamari, smoked fish dip, cheeseburgers, Seared Ahi-Tuna melt, Shrimp Baskets, rum runners. Beached Whale- Buffalo Shrimp, Pork sandwich, and flat bread pizzas. The cottage/ Gulfshore Grill - Beach Bread, Dixie Fish Co.- Mussels, Peel-n-eat Shrimp, Rib-eye steak sandwich. SOB - steamer pots-with crab oysters-etc..



Francesca's- lasagna, meatball subs, homemade bread sticks stuffed with Mozzarella & Sandbar n Grill- cold beer and pizza.


- Reese's omelette's

- Pincher's Buffalo Wings (we think they are better

than Hooter's)

- The Crunchy Fish Sandwich at the Pierside Grill

- Grouper Fish 'n Chips at the Parrot Key

- Burgers at Jimmy's Pink Cadillac



And you can wash it all down with the best valued ($1.59 16oz.) draft beer on the beach at Wahoo Willies - not a bad Grouper sandwich there either.

Thanks conch man. We are staying at the Lahani on the beach in Ft. Myers. I hope it is nice and clean. I don't expect fancy, jsut a nice clean place on the beach. We like to sit on the beach all day and eat out at night. Very laid back vacations suit us perfectly. Sounds like we will not go hungry with all of your suggestions.

The Edison-Ford Estates tour is interesting and informative and the gardens/flowers are pretty. Enjoy.

If you see or smell smoke in the morning, do not be alarmed. There is a huge fire going on in the Everglades area that is blowing your way. It should clear up by noon. (I75 - Alligator Alley) has been closed for a couple of days, so don't plan a trip to Ft Lauderdale. We haven't had rain down here for months.

Best route from Ft. Myers to Miami???

We are going to Ft. Myers for a week the end of May then over to Miami to take our first cruise to Bahamas so what is best way to drive if Alligator alley is still closed at that time?

Thanks for all the tips on places to eat and see. This will be our first time to Ft. Myers and Miami area. DH is worried about getting sea sick on a cruise.

We are here! Thanks for the replies. So far we are lovin it. Our place, Lahania unit 36, is perfect for us, location is a 10. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. Seems to have recently been refurbished with new carpet, paint, etc. And did I say location! We look out our front window- actually the entire living area has a wall of windows/sliding doors that are glass- and it looks directly at the beach. We ate at the fish house last night, bought our groceries and beverages and are ready for a relaxing day on the beach.

Bonita Beach area has Coconut Plantation Mall-urban mall with a great cinema and dining area. Wonderful beaches in the area and you can go preview Hyatt Coconut Plantation.
