Good price/point

hello, what is considered good price/point to buy at any HGVC club/ I have a couple I am looking at that varies from $1.71/pt to $2.34/pt?

it sounds strange but it all depends on what you are looking for. I would think that around that price range you are looking at larger points packages.

For 5k points, you should be able to purchase around 5000 to 5500 if you have a smart resale agent. That is about 1.00 a point to 1.10.

For a 7k package you should be able to grab one for about 11,000 to 11,500. This will be 1.57 to 1.64

Now if you are looking at hawaii, then you are on your own to figure out. Hawaii is always going to be more expensive. I would think around 2.08 a point sounds good, but that is guessing you can grab a 9600 unit for 20,000.

You can grab a 9600 vegas strip or Orlando for around say 17,000 bringing your points down a bit.


Hope this helps, I am sure others will jump in if I am wrong, could be, may be, but from what I have been reading lately, the first two sets of numbers should be close. Get a good agent to help you, that is the bottom line.

If you are willing to buy at the Bay Club, you can get a nice package for much cheaper than 2.08 per point.

A few things to consider:

-Bay Club is a bit cheaper to enter than other HGVC resorts. You can probably get into Bay Club for $5k-$7k ofr a 4800 pt package. Not the same for HHV or other Hawaii resorts though.

- If you only compare the price per point, i.e., you spend $5K on a 5K pt package, to many that means $1 per point. But, when you then add the MFs into the equation, you'll have a much better guage of price per point.

For example: assuming $5K for a 5K pt package plus MFs of $900 is really $5900 for the first year and $1.18 per point, not $1.00 per point. Factor the MFs in over a 10 or 20 yr period, and it makes a much bigger difference.

It does not pay to buy in Hawaii at all unless you find the exact unit you want in the location and season you want it. LV makes the most sense to me if you are just buying points. Points and piece of mind over time then perhaps buying Hawaii makes sense. Again, only if it is the exact location, season and if you do indeed book 9 - 12 months out.

A 4,800 pt package at Bay club is much cheaper than $5k-$7K:

Even adding in the difference in MFs over a few years and it's still cheaper than a 4,800 pt package in either LV or Fla.

Don't overlook Bay club as a cheap option for getting into HGVC or expanding your points.

Of course, after 10+ years the price difference is not so great; but you can always sell it at that point.

Buying the Bay Club is a great way to get into HGVC and also it ensures that you will be able to get to Hawaii if that is really important to you. BUT there are some small disadvantages of owning an affiliate HGVC resort instead of a true HGVC resort. They seem small and are associated with using next years points before paying your MFs (not really sure of details) But it should be something to keep in mind.
