Am I allowed to arrive a day late when using a "guest Certificate?"

I have a "Guest Certificate" at the Marriott Manor Club in Williamsburg dated Saturday, July 25th. We prefer not to arrive until Sunday, July 26th - can I do that?

Are there any downsides (other than losing a day) to arriving a day after the scheduled start of the Guest Certificate?

Yes, why not? The guest certificate entitles you to a unit (Villa) for that week, and any portion thereof.

The only problem of arriving late is that you may end up with the least desirable Villa location since all the others would have been previously assigned.
 
I would call the resort that week and let them know you plan on gett there a day late.

Yes, call and tell them that you will be arriving late. If space is tight, they might just rent out your unit if they think you're a no-show.
