Can you convert rescued points to Hhonors points if left in your account at the end of the year.

Call HGVC to make a Hilton reservation using your points. After the reservation is made and can be seen on-line at the Hilton site, cancel it, the points will be redeposited in your account and will appear as regular HHonors points.

This will work, but note that when you make a direct Hilton hotel reservation with your points, the conversion rate is 20:1 vs. 25:1 when you "deposit" your HGVC points to HHonors. But if you are going to lose the points anyway, 20:1 is better than nothing.

When I called HGVC to make a reservation with my RESCUED points, I was told that it cannot be done. Did anything change?

Do you have any current year points in your account? If you do, you should be able to combine them with the rescued points to make a Hilton reservation. If they are only rescued points, than I agree that it probably cannot be done.

What did you ask them to do with your rescued points? Where was the reservation that you were requesting?

No, my current year points were deposited into 2010, and I had ony RESCUED points for this year (from 2008)

I just asked them whether I can make a reservation , and they looked at my account and said you only have RESCUED points for this year, and it cannot be done .

I will need more details to understand your problem. Did you try to make a resevation at a HGVC property? Are your HGVC points rescued from 2008 and set to expire in 2009? Do you have enough rescued points to make the kind of reservation you were requesting?

I think they were telling you to make a HGVC reservation with your rescued points and then cancelling that reservation. I think they may be assuming that, when you cancel a HGVC reservation the points don't go back into your HGVC account but will automatically become HHonors points.

I can't say that my interpretation of what they're telling you to do is accurate but, I know you can't used rescued points to make a hotel reservation. You can only use rescued points for HGVC reservations. I was also under the impression that, if you cancelled a HGVC resevation made with rescued points it would revert back into your HGVC account, not transfer to HHonors points. Before paying any fee's, I'd clarify what happens if/when you cancel your reservation. It would not be good to make a reseravation, pay a fee, cancel the reservation and then find yourself exactly where you started.

Rescued points can only be used for HGVC stays within the club reservation window. They cannot be used to make HH reservations.

If you have any clubreservations for this year, using current year points, you can cancel these reservations and re-book with the rescued points - leaving you with your current year points.

Deposited points would have allowed HH reservations. (If I deposit my 2010 points in 2011, I can use these points for clubreservations, hotel reservations and RCI reservations.) Rescued points do not allow anything but club reservations.

I had 7000 points from 2008 RESCUED into 2009, and my regular 2009 points were deposited into 2010. So I have 7000 RESCUED points for 2009 (expires december 31 2009) and 14000 points for 2010 ( 7k from 2009 plus 7k from 2010)

I was not planning on taking any vacations this year, but since my points expire by End of year which I cannot deposit or RCI deposit, I thought of converting into HH points by making a hotel reservation and then cancelling it.

But as sml2181 mentioned , the CSR told me that the RESCUED points can only be used for club reservations.

That being the case, I'd seriously give thought to taking a vacation someplace and get on-line and book what you can find. If you can't go someplace, offer it up to friends or family to see if they'd like to go. If that's a no go, you might be able to rent it out or exchange it independent of HGVC.

If all else fails, you could donate the points to HGVC's program for returning servicemen who uses the donation to book stays for them and their families.

I agree with UWSurfer. You cannot use your rescued points any other way than to book a reservation at a HGVC resort. So, plan a nice trip before the year is over. Have a good time.
