What Washington DC site must be pre-arranged

I wanted to get some info from those that might know what sites in Washington DC must be pre-arranged with either the site or with a congressperson or senator in order to tour them.

Also, are White House tours still an option?

Thanks for the info.

We got tickets ahead of time for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the Capitol from our Congressman. Couldn't do the White House because they wanted a group of ten. Bought timed tickets online for the Washington Monument but thats because were there Easter week and it was very crowded as you can probably imagine. If you're planning on going to the Archives and can get tickets in advance, do so. That was a very long wait (but well worth it). DC was one of the best vacations we ever had!

Ditto on the National Archives. My son was just there yesterday and called home to have me try to get reservations for later in the week. Found out online that you must request this service at least 6 weeks in advance. If it's on your list...then I suggest making a reservation for no waiting.
