Our points one is deeded -to a July week in TN. It was converted to points from a week before we acquired it.

Marriott Abound, Westin Flex and Sheraton Flex are all deeded. As is Disney Vacation Club. Club Wyndham Access is not deeded.

Our VRI points are tied to a deeded week, so in that respect, they are deeded.

WorldMark is a pure point timeshare system and not deeded. To what I think is the point of your question, it doesn't have to be a deeded week to be a timeshare. Point systems turn those deeded weeks into points but it doesn't change the fact that those points are a finite number linked to the number of units and weeks available within that system...they can't add more points without adding more inventory. It's just a more modern twist of the original week-based format.

What company? You may want to review your post above - it may need editing for clarification.

Developers? Perhaps not but they can still be acquired. I still have four fixed week, fixed unit contracts at Quarter House in New Orleans and one at Pine Acres Lodge in Pacific Grove, CA. Of course, these were resales when I acquired them.

Like many things, timeshares have evolved. Our first presentations were for fixed weeks (and maybe fixed units, I don't recall). It wasn't until we heard a presentation about points that we actually bought anything. If old-style timeshares are dead, RIP.

I can't speak for developers, but I just sold a fixed week/fixed unit near Yellowstone N.P. last week. It had been on offer in the Marketplace for several months. Fixed week/units are out there.

What do you mean by "not evolved"? It did evolve based on consumer demands. Into point based programs. If you still want fixed week fixed unit, then that is certainly not evolving.

It was the inflexibility of fixed weeks that led to points-based contracts. I didn't want to be locked in to the same week every year -- although one offer was for Thanksgiving Week just south of Daytona Beach, which wouldn't have been all that bad. That was in 1994 or 1995.

I don't think anyone is saying that fixed week, fixed unit oceanfront units are still available from developers. If that is the limit of your concept of timesharing, then it is indeed dead. But there is much more to the concept and reality of timesharing than fixed week, fixed unit oceanfront units from developers.

I get lots of water views despite not having any fixed week, fixed unit oceanfront units from developers or otherwise.

Traveling around and exploring over a long distance not one area is exactly NOT fixed week, fixed unit. And, in traveling around and exploring, you might actually come across a water view now and then, a different water view than the fixed week, fixed unit oceanfront that you say is your concept of timesharing.

If I wanted to, I could purchase a fixed-week unit from Disney Vacation Club tomorrow paying a slight premium over developer prices. (It would have a points-equivalent I could convert it to if I didn’t want to go that week one year) Of course, I wouldn’t want to do that, because developer prices are insane, however, I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s impossible to get fixed weeks anymore.

I’m staying at Club Wyndham Oceanside Pier in California in October during Columbus Day Week (just booked it, very excited!). I used my points to select an Ocean Front category room. The points I have I purchased resale nearly for free at low maintenance-fee resorts. You need to evolve with the product, there are still great deals to be had, and you can still get the rooms and times you want.

We're fans of fixed weeks as well. I guess I'm just "old school" that way. :) It seems like the only ones that really have fixed-weeks anymore are independent resorts. (Assuming owners have not converted theirs to RCI points) Your best bet may be to find an independent, owner's association-managed resort where you want to go and see if they are selling off weeks that have been relinquished back to the association. (Many times, they will list available units in the owner's newsletter. I know the timeshares we own do that.) You can always call the property manager; the worst they can do is tell you "no". Good luck.
