Does anyone have information about availability at timeshares in the Costa del Sol/Malaga area? We'd be looking to go end of May. Would this generally be a difficult trade?

I found a total of 19 resorts in Spain in the last half of May using RCI Points. About 5-6 in/near Malaga Obviously, the quality/size was all over the map, but there is availability, and the best resorts will fill first.

We have stayed at Somni de Cambrils. Not exactly 'deluxe', but serviceable as a base to visit the area. There is a 1st C. Roman villa being excavated across the street and the town has several Michelin starred restaurants. We got along fine without a car. - about 5 blocks from the train station and 2-3 from the beach. Supermarket 1/2 mile away.

Back in 2010, we traded our 1 BR Ren Aruba week 49 and got July 4th week at MacDonald Dona Lola resort. Great trade and you can read about it in the Marketplace. Note that not all resorts are on the beach; some are across the highway.

Check RCI for Club la Costa (CLC) resorts. They have multiple locations in the Fuengirola area. The California Beach Resorts are the newest units, I'd compare them to Vacation Villas in quality. May is not the high season in the Costa del Sol; June, July, August and school holidays are in the most demand.

Availability becomes sketchy starting about mid March. Up til then, it's great. You can find rentals for $550/week or less.

Thanks - we will have to see how it goes. There is a school vacation coming up in May which would be the perfect time to go...

We liked Macdonald Villacana. Lovely gardens. It’s nearer Estepona than Malaga. Estepona is an interesting town with a working harbor and a good choice of seafood restaurants especially the informal Restaurante La Escollera, adjacent to the harbor parking lot.
