My timeshare company in Florida says there was hurricaine damage & asking all shareholders 3x the amount of maintainable fee due in < 2 months..
They say the insurance company is not paying so they r hiring attorneys.
I have heard... the insurance company told them that previous repairs were not completed & it is black mold...
What is our recourse? Can’t we just drop our time share..
Timeshares were 650 per week, Now $1940 per week... Some people have 3 to 60 weeks.... Everyone’s timeshare runs out 2023/2024

It would be a really helpful to post the name of the timeshare, since we likely already have a discussion about it that we can refer you to.

Sounds like Fishermen’s Village in Punta Gorda, Florida. We have a RTU week there and the OP is quoting my story very closely. Am I right Sweetnsassy?

Does anyone who owns or owned at Fishermen's Village, Punta Gorda Fl, have any knowledge if there is any kind of tax write off or disaster relief credit due to hurricane damage resulting in early termination of lease?

Why would you get any tax write off for a termination on your lease? Just asking. I terminated my lease at fisherman's village. It only had 2 years left. I didn't pay much about 15 years ago. I mainly used it as a trader so it was good they took it back. Went to the restaurant last November the upper floors were still in construction.

I agree Talkamotta, however, I have a sister-in-law that can be over the top on these things and since we inherited the weeks from my parents, I tried to appease her by saying I would pose the question to wealth of knowledge available on Tug. I am sure what ever we signed to terminate the lease spelled this out also, but it is just so much more fun to hear from other people on the topic. Thank you!

Since it runs out in about 3 years, i would go there before my maintenance fees come due "if possible" and then pay this years regular maintenance fee " not 3x times fee's" and roll the dice too see what happens next. whats the worst thing that could happen? they send a lots of bills or threaten collections?

"I have heard... the insurance company told them that previous repairs were not completed & it is black mold..."

Setting aside they are going to court, If true, the BOD/management neglected to fulfill their responsibility. Hypothetically, are they not responsible for " the uninsured costs"? And if so, typically the BOD carries insurance policies to cover BOD liabilities. So shouldn't that insurance company pay up?
