What is your take on why RCI has slashed the cost to get into DVC lately?

Prime weeks now go for 30 TPUs when we have seen them around 60 I believe. Obviously, not complaining...…

I have been noticing many more DVC weeks thru the hgvc portal then the tpu system. DVC weeks (not points) in the hgvc portal are not showing up in the tpu system and if they do there is a delay.

Something is definitely going on with tpu values. South Florida weeks tpu’s needed for a trade have gone up, DVC down. It will be interesting to see if this continues.

i also noticed several DVC contracts sold on ebay at very low prices. Since it is the end of the year they may survive ROFR. I know that some DVC owners are not happy about a 10% M/F increase but it seems way too soon to call trouble in paradise. DVC is a premium product, no question about it, but without the aggressive ROFR policy the resale prices would not be far from the other top brands.

My recollection is that this (or something like it) has happened before, and it is seasonal. And, if you've ever seen Skier Pete's DisBoard thread on DVC availability, it makes sense. The period from just after the Marathon weekend until Food & Wine starts is much less in demand than the period from the start of F&W through the Marathon. And, the first period is what is being deposited now. With less internal demand, more of this time of year is being deposited, pushing supply up and TPU values down. Likewise, it seems reasonably clear that families planning vacations do so mostly in the late winter/early spring for the summer period, and they are not thinking about that so much between Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, because so much other stuff is going on. So, this is likely also a time of lower-than-average demand by people searching for DVC (or anything else for that matter), also pushing TPU values down.

I suspect that by the time we hit the end of spring, values will be back up, because deposits dry up and more people are looking.

Last year the TPU requirement for Feb-Apr were 55-60. Five years ago DVC were anywhere from 30-55 TPU's. Hopefully, they keep the TPU's at a more reasonable level this year.
