I cancelled a Hilton reservation for a 3 day stay that I take every year for a conference and they offered me a 3 day stay at the same hotel for $238 at the Hotel and time of my choice. I told the agent repeatedly that my husband does not travel, will never travel hates travel and will not be with me. He sold me the package anyway.
The first agent that called wanted me to make a reservation. I told him that the conference dates had not been announced yet and he mentioned that the trip was for my husband and me. I corrected him that I told the agent that my husband NEVER travels. He said that he had to come or the package was void. I told him that I'd told the selling agent that my husband never travels. He said I'd lose the package. I said "fine" just take my name off the records so no one ever calls me again.
Another agent just called to book my stay. I told him the same story. He encouraged me to call customer service and they may give my money back. So I did and got the same nothing result.
I was annoyed mostly at myself for falling for it. But now I'm angry at them for false hope and really fraudulent behavior. Hilton, like the rest of the timeshare operators, have no integrity.

Certainly not typical of Hilton, IME. I've certainly had calls that purported to be Hilton, but were not. Given how much they knew, though, this does sound like them. Definitely not a good thing.

Suggest calling the credit card company to dispute the charge based on the misinformation. Good luck!

It may not have been Hilton per say but a 3rd party marketer selling Hilton promotional getaways. It really shouldn't make a difference but developers use these sellers and then often refuse to take responsibility when problems like these arise.

This does not sound like Hilton and may be a scam. I was once booked to speak at a conference. A third travel party company called and said they were working with the conference organizers (they named names and the conference name) to book rooms for the speakers at a special rate.

My room was to be reimbursed by the organizers so I didn't think much of it. Found out later that this travel company looks up conference info and conference chair names on the Internet and calls speakers to book non-refundable reservations. They told me that the room was refundable but before they booked they presented a long contract you need to sign online and you don't get a copy. I thought this was akin to a contract of carriage for the airlines.

When I called to let them know that I found a better rate and wanted to cancel since I was per diem, that is when I realized there was a scam. The organizers never heard of this company.

There was an actual reservation when I checked with the hotel, but I was able to dispute via credit card company and the hotel to cancel. What a hassle!

Bottom line: there are third party travel agencies out there that will book a non-refundable room but they are dishonest in their approach and disclosure of the terms.

Two things. If it is related to a conference, there are what are called “poachers” who are not authorized by the conference will try and get your booking. Conferences get cash for authorized bookings.

That's why I thought it, unfortunately, was Hilton rather than the scammer that others have surmised. I've gotten calls from any number of people "representing" Hilton, but the spouse attendance is very timeshare-presentation-oriented. And I can't imagine anyone other than Hilton having a vested interest in that.
