I understand that in order to get all of the DVC perks that one must now buy at least 75 points direct from Disney. Unfortunately we bought our resale contract just as that limit was upped from 25. I wish I had looked into it earlier. Oh well.

We spent a couple of weeks in Orlando over Christmas and New Years this year and have really fallen in love with the mouse and all the fun our kids had

My question is about those perks. We currently own 320 points via resale and I was thinking about buying 80 direct to round us up to 400 and also to qualify for the DVC perks. If I do this can I then use all of my points to do things like book a Disney cruise or only the 80 that I bought direct?

Thanks,

V

No, you could only use the 80 pts for restricted options applicable to your 320 points. If you bought at least 75 direct, you would have the discounts and be able to book the new resorts (assuming it was right after the change to 75 pts but not access to DCL, Disney Collection or Concierge collection except for the 80 pts. Basically it only makes sense if you need more points and you'll take advantage of the pass discounts enough to justify the difference.

I use my membership card to buy AP Gold and get into the Owner's lounge. I don't use my points for DCL (cash only) and Concierge and Adventures by Disney cost SO much that I wouldn't ever spend that much. lol

But if you aren't a FL resident or military, that Gold pass will save you $200 per pass, so that can certainly add up quickly.
