I'm watching an auction on Ebay for Island Links resort timeshare, odd year usage, floating weeks, 2 BR with MF just under $1k bi-annually. I am very new to timeshares and just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into so any advice/ info would be greatly appreciated!

We fell in love with HHI and would like to vacation there on a regular basis. I am currently a Wyndham owner with even year usage so we thought an odd year usage in HHI would be perfect in our situation. I'm fairly confident with how the Wyndham points system works but have no clue how a floating week system works when it's particular to a resort.

I've read through the forums and other reviews and I'm sure we'll like the resort itself just fine. However, I'm very confused about the booking part.

1. The listing lists floating weeks 6-10, 43-47 & 51-52. What does that mean exactly? I can book for travel during those weeks only? Am I guaranteed to be able to book one of those weeks? What is the check-in day? Do we HAVE to stay 7 days?

2. The listing also lists a unit number, is that the unit we will always get?

3. I've read that as an owner, you get a golf package and you can bring your pet, is that true?

4. Do I have to utilize RCI at all? I don't want to have to pay anything extra on top of my maintenance fees to use my timeshare.

Thank you in advance!

yes, these are the floating weeks that are available with your membership each year. check in day likely varies from resort to resort, so you would want to call and verify. and while you dont have to stay the full week, that is usually what your ownership entitles you to. chances are at an independent resort, you cant break up your week into multiple weeks or stays, but you can likely rent a separate week if you wanted to go more than once each year etc.

more than likely, although in most cases folks can get moved around in some situations.

likely depends on the ownership itself, this is something you would want to confirm with the resort vs just taking someones word for it!

you do not have to pay for an rci membership if you do not want to.

Hi Goodflower76, Welcome to TUG!

When looking at the floating weeks of the timeshare you are considering purchasing, it looks like it is not prime summer ocean swimming season. Make sure that wasn’t something you were counting on when purchasing. If you were to purchase a week during summer beach season, the price would reflect that.

You may want to try renting first. Here on the TUG Marketplace there are several Hilton Head resorts available for rent this year:

Also consider Redweek.com and MyResortNetwork.com for renting/resales.
