Did anyone get a really bad cold/flu/bacterial infection this season?

I have mostly been missing in action the last month. The day I came home from my Florida vacation I thought my allergies were acting up. Within a few days I had a cold but it never went to my chest. I had a low grade fever for over a week and my voice was hoarse and I had massive throat drip. I felt extremely tired. I was put on antibiotics and felt better in two day but continued running a low grade fever another week.

The fever stopped, the drip was better, my voice was back and two days later my pulse and pressure were very high and went to the doctor. It came down in 24 hours and the last week it has been good. My personal belief is salt water gargling affected me negatively.

Here it’s 4 weeks since the start of getting sick and still getting bouts of tiredness but better overall. Getting my walking in and napping when I have to. This illness knocked me out. Tomorrow doctors visit for followup.

I know I have been told many are getting sick with similiar sysmtoms, wondering if it’s widespread.

Can't imagine how salt water gargle could have adverse effect. It's my go to cure.

Sorry that it is hitting you hard.

I posted in a separate thread when I thought I had dodged the cold/flu. This happened a couple of weeks ago:
- Thursday (2/28) afternoon had a bad sore throat. I took one ColdEEZE. By evening time, it felt like I got hit with the flu, with full body aches, fever and extreme tiredness. I had not gotten the flu since I started taking annual flu shot about 20 years ago. I got home, took my temperature and sure enough I was running a low grade fever. I took another ColdEEZE and started cold medication.
- I continued with ColdEEZE and cold medication on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, I felt normal as though I had recovered. I stopped all medications on Sunday.
- On Monday, I did not feel good when I woke up. Sore throat came on again and my nose was a little sniffy. I restarted ColdEEZE and cold medications. By Friday (3/8) I was 90% well. The good thing is that a cough did not develop. All symptoms disappeared by Sunday.

I believe it started out as a flu but I did not end up with a bad one. I attribute it to the flu shot and taking medications immediately when symptoms started.

My DW and I have been battling headcolds for 10 days.
I've been coughing up a lot of phlegm, mostly white & pink.
DW got it worse... an ear infection which burst her eardrum.
She'll be seeing an ENT specialist next week.

Wow. That's horrible. So sorry. Hope you feel 100% very soon!

I have been lucky- but then again I rarely go anywhere.

My husband did get the flu shot and so far thankfully has been well this year.

Sorry for anyone who has been sick this season. It's going around my workplace, and a lot of folks have been hit pretty hard. So far (knock on my wooden head) I've been able to avoid it. Here's hoping that's a trend that continues. :)

Get well!

Nope, none here. Maybe that's a side benefit of being retired?

I normally eat a low salt diet. My pressure goes up with many medicines, thinking salt might be the same.

I immediately started with Cold ease too. I belive I had a flu even though I had the shot followed with a bacterial infection. Glad it wasn’t as bad for you.

I did... I ended up with Sinus Infection. It wiped me for about 2.5 weeks. Finishing up my Meds now, but I still cough a few times a day.

This is one of the few side benefits to working in the public education sector. I figured I've been exposed (repeatedly) to all the nasty viruses, bacteria, and general yuck imaginable.
No flu this year - at least not yet!
Did get the shot this year though!

DH caught something from the grandkids or on the plane after Christmas and it lasted a month, mostly coughing at night. Amazing I did not catch it from him. Lots of folks here in FL that had the same thing.

Patti had bronchitis last October/November. It lasted forever. We ended up sleeping in separate rooms for over a month. We also had to cancel our Thanksgiving trip to SLC to see the GD's.

Next time look for Coricidin HBP (High Blood Pressure). I cannot take the regular decongestants as my blood pressure will go up.

YES! Whole family got it. Started with horribly painful throat, followed by congestion, and incessant cough. Every other day felt completely floored, then better , then down for the count again over a week or so. Cough and congestion continued. One ended up with sinus infection. Cough mostly ended at about 3-4 weeks. Negative for flu.

Symptoms seemed pretty consistent with others we knew.

Last year on a cruise, I developed a persistent cough. A British nurse who I met there recommended dark chocolate with at least 80% cocoa... like from Lindt, Ghirardelli and Godiva. It seemed to help.

Several earlier, I saw a doc for a sore throat + cough. He recommended very strong hot tea (6 tea bags) with honey. He blamed it on air currents bringing stuff in from Mexico. That was pre-Trump.

Did get the shot this year though!

Day care is even better. The average day care worker is out sick close to 20 days the first year. My wife fit that model a long time ago. After a couple years I cannot remember her getting more than 1 cold in 40 yrs.

No flu here, thankfully, but family members in western NY were hit pretty hard. They got flu shots but I heard it was just 24% effective this year!

We avoid air travel as much as possible b/c I believe bad cabin air causes/perpetuates a lot of health problems. You can wipe down the armrest and tray table, but there isn't much you can do to avoid bad cabin air!

To all who are suffering effects of the flu, hope you're all feeling better soon!

I had a repeat of last year/winter. My granddaughter started pre-school last year. This year pre-k. Since September, I have had more or less a cold. She gets it. Takes it home. Gives it to her two younger brothers. Parents get it, us grandparents babysit 1-2 days a week. I get it more than hubby since I do most of the handling/changing them. My dil tells me all winter half the kids are usually out.

By the time I get rid of my congestion, etc. - I get it all over again. Just got over it now. Soon the allergies start

I am hoping next year - she won't catch a cold as easy - who knows. I finally started to buy Vitamin C. We have worn gloves, masks but nothing helps :(.

Hope everyone who is still not feeling better, feels better soon.

@Panina Sorry to hear about your illness. Glad you are on the mend.

Knock on wood we have been healthy this year. Had nasty cough for about 6 months after visiting South America a few years ago. Hopefully that will help immunize us for a long time.
