Snorkeling at Lagunamar?

Is there any type of snorkeling right in front of Lagunamar? We don't need anything special at all. We will have our 4 year old on the raft with the plexiglass porthole. Not really interested in doing any snorkeling tours, just want something simple and within walking distance.

Thanks!

Quick answer is no and waves can be quite rough in front of resort. A hundred yards or so to the left is a sandbar where the beach juts out, seems to be a bit calmer there.

ThreeLittleBirds, ... The surf at Lagunamar (where I am right now) is quite rough. I have been to Cancun 5 times and the surf has always been rough. The prevailing winds are from offshore to onshore. I have not seen anyone snorkeling - much less using a raft with a plexiglass porthole to view fish.

Most of the snorkeling seems to be done on the west side of Ilsa de Las Mujeres which is a 40 minute boat ride from the Hotel Zone docks, which are themselves a 10-15 minute bus ride (8.5 pesos per person or 65 US cents) from Lagunamar. ... eom

xel ha is probably your best bet- my guess is, even if the water was tame in front of the resort- there wouldn't be too much to see. I don't believe there is a coral reef etc. ....now WKORV is a different story.

We have snorkeled using one of the Isla Mujeres trips -- a pretty area in the open water. Not as convenient as Hawaii but a nice experience.

I would second the suggestion of Isla Mujeres. We have taken snorkel trips there several times. Garafon Park on the southern side of the island had some good snorkeling too. But that can get very crowded during the day with the day trippers from Cancun.
