i don't even know where to start looking. Is anyone familiar with any timeshares in that area? My DS is doing a medical internship there for one month a little over a year from now. The rest of the year will be spent in an apartment in Wilmington, but the drive is so long for that one month (1.5 hours each way). Airbnb might be a solution, but then I thought about a timeshare situation as a possibility. I could also raid my Marriott points account and put him up for a month at a Fairfield. Open to suggestions! TIA

ETA it would be nice if I could spell Jacksonville correctly in the title, oops

Only one I know of in the area is Peppertree Atlantic Beach (in Pine Knoll Shores on Emerald Isle) which would be a 45-60 minute drive to Jacksonville (depending on where in Jacksonville).

Wyndham Fairfield Harbour is across the Neuse River from New Bern. Also about an hour from Camp Lejeune. Not a lot better than going from Wilmington. Best bet is probably an extended stay suites hotel in Jacksonville.

Any chance your DS can get temporary quarters on Camp Lejeune (Bachelor Officer Quarters)? There's a facility on the post called Inns of the Corps -- basically a hotel. Whoever is sponsoring your DS might be able to help with lodging for the month. Also ask about exchange and commissary privileges.

The best way to find out what timeshares are the closest, whether Interval International or RCI, is to check the TUG timeshare map that is located at tug2.com/tsmaps/TimeshareMaps.html

There you will find two RCI timeshares that are in #5822 and 1231 and one that is inland #1183. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any II timeshare that is close. Patrick

We stayed at New Bern many times when our son was in the Marines. Large and quiet resort. New Bern has an older downtown section that is nice, plus newer areas. Many nice restaurants.
The resorts have nightly stays as well. I believe that it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 per night.
