I am considering buying a timeshare. I live in Charlotte, and we don't fly. We will either be in Orlando or a beach resort. I am down to Hilton or Marriott. Looks like Hilton goes for about $2 a point. Mariott $3.50 to $5.00 a point. I am leaning toward Mariott, only because I think they may be better, no other reason, no facts. Looking for peoples opinions, ideas, and what I need to research. Also should I join TUG? ( I am thinking thats a stupid question) lol. Any other websites other than redweek.com?
Thanks for all of your input.

1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where? Orlando, or the beach on the east coast

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time? Since Mariott and Hilton are points, I don't think that matters, or does it.

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations? Orlando, or a beach location. Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach, A Florida Beach

4) How many people do you usually travel with? 2 to 4

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule? anytime but could be locked in to a school schedule

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance? If I must, yes

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time? yes, but wouldn't mind 3 - 4 days

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars? 4 to 5. Would like a nice pool

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing? Enough

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year? $2400 would prefer $1500

11) Are you a detail oriented planner? Oh heck no

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do? yes

Welcome to Tug.

I live in your area and with the areas you like to visit and you want to drive I would suggest Hilton. It would cost you less and you would have Mytle Beach, Hilton Head, and many Florida Resorts. We often drive to these areas.

Be aware that points in different systems are like foreign currency. 100 points in one system does not equal 100 points in another system.

One system I own in averages about 15 points a night for a two bedroom and another averages about 1500.

So...your comparison per point for the systems is not meaningful.

JohnPaul, Good point. I went to a Hilton Timeshare meeting. And of course I have forgotten everything. I do believe though 7,000 points in either system will get you 2 weeks in a 2 bdrm timeshare. But where can I find info on that?

Marty

JohnPaul, Looked at the chart, and my previous statement is kind of false. Thanks
