Sounds fun, Barb. Is fishing included? Enjoy!

Hello Jim and hi to Paula! Fishing from shore is free, there are kayaks and canoes available on a first-come/first-served basis, power boats for rent and guided fishing for a fee. I don't fish but Fred is hoping to meet others who are willing to share the cost of a guide for a day. I plan on reading, knitting and hiking on Dokis tribal trails. We both will be taking lots of photos, plus one day we'll be leaving the lodge for church and golf.

You will be about 2 hrs north of me (& pass by my exit on Hwy 400 if you are driving up from Toronto). It is beautiful country up there and thankfully, now the huge forest fire just south of there, is under control as of yesterday. Take some good (Deet) bug spray as the mosquitoes seem to be hanging on longer this year, being especially bad at dusk. Enjoy your week!~Diane

Thanks, Diane for the tip about DEET. I worry about flies too- got a bite from one the other day that hurt for several days after- luckily my golfing partner had bug spray in her bag so it was just the one chomp. We are coming us via Toronto from the Cleveland suburbs. Not doing it all in a day, but spending the night prior to check-in in Ancaster at the Barracks Inn and meeting some cruising friends for dinner.

Enroute home we are spending one night on Manitoulin Is, taking the ferry the next day and exploring the Bruce Peninsula and staying in Sauble Beach before driving back along the shore of Lake Huron.

Really looking forward to this unique timeshare trade!

Interesting thread with lots of commonalities among us. Agree with 2 bedroom, full kitchen with w/d, free parking (this could be a deal breaker as it is usually really high when they do charge. Most of the time I don't need AC, but it needs to be clean (another deal breaker). Most of my TS's have a full laundry within the unit which I find very convenient. The one TS which does not has one on the property, but far enough away that I need to drive to it, and, needless to say, is not free. But the location! Nice patio looking out over a beautiful valley in Vermont! One of my favorites. I expect to drive to things I came to see and do, but I do expect to have a comfortable place to come back to each day. Now if they only easier to sell when necessary!

I have read many posts but "my highest must have" is a greater than a 7.5 TUG rating before I will consider using or owning at a resort.
There has to be something special about the timeshare to use it in the first place.
I don't care about the view if I can drive to see a nice view in a reasonably short time.
I own at two timeshares without A/C . I avoid the rainy season and the hot season (July & August). Very comfortable Lawai Beach on Kauai because of trade winds.
I usually want laundry but at our Hacienda Tres Rios we have the view and all inclusive and great weather. I pack enough clothes for a week and who cares about laundry or the Kitchen.

Must have list:
7.5 Tug Rating minimum
Kitchen that functions for tourist-ish meals (except for AIC; Just a refrigerator)
Free Parking.
Clean unit
Decent bed(s)

You brought up a lot of stuff I wouldn't have even thought of. As just a couple, our most lusted after feature inside the unit is an oven. I want to bake a pizza or whatever and grills just don't cut it.
The resort itself needs to be in nature, not a cityscape. It must be away from traffic, QUIET and not overrun with kids. No kids. Just NO.

Such an interesting thread! I just rejoined Interval as I bought Hyatt Carmel and I have been poking around wondering where I would go. Besides Carmel, obviously! Love the Canadian one - what exchange did you use?

I used to be an avid skier but now focus more on cities or birdwatching and general touristing. I am an opera nut so love that my Royal Holiday points get me to New York, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, and lots of European cities and several beaches, which I love looking at but am not a big swimmer any more. Wave Crest at Del Mar is terrific because the beach is right there and San Diego and La Jolla have so much to see and do. Love having an extra space (doesn't always need to be a one bedroom) if I am traveling with an early riser as I am a sleeper inner. Other than that, just saving a lot of money on the residence makes me happy. I rarely cook at home, so as long as I can get my coffee and have someplace to store a snack I am good. A fridge and microwave are big bonuses, so I can reheat things I buy at a store or restaurant. Love the washer dryer but it is low on the totem pole. I don't cook much anymore (thank you Trader Joe) so I don't mind washing a few dishes.

Bird watching and a bit of hiking are my other loves - and kayaking is a big bonus (thus Carmel). So mountains and beaches. Clean of course. Love the hotel like places with made up beds :) but I am fine with no service whatsoever as long as I am happy with the locale. So far I've avoided the all inclusives because my friends are city people and not interested in sharing a place in Cancun. We'll see if we can change that

In addition to all the above, we require wifi / internet access. Just spent 2 weeks at our timeshare on Kauai. All worked perfectly until Thursday, when our email suddenly wouldn't download. The Resort tried to help, but to no avail. Friday we flew to the Big Island, thinking there would be no problem at our timeshare here. Wrong! Same problem. We can send, but not receive. My husband retired from being a specialist in computers. He thoroughly checked with Earthlink, and all the settings are perfect. The internet contractor with this Resort told me the same thing after a lengthy phone conversation, and is "escalating the referral to the engineering dept." The trace router for the server for incoming email cannot be found. We are here for a month, and accessing web mail every time is a hassle. We have a big project pending at home, friends coming to visit, and more, and wanting as much time as possible to relax and enjoy our vacation.
Spectrum is the new internet provider here in the Islands, and we are wondering....Have any of you other Earthlink users had this problem?

NYS is trying to throw Spectrum out of the state.
