Yes or No: Should You Keep This In Your Safe Deposit Box?
By Bob Niedt/ Online Editor/ Quiz/ Retirement/ Kiplinger/ kiplinger.com

"Even as financial institutions offer more and more incentives to move us into the digital cloud for all of our banking needs, some old-school services are still in demand by bank customers. Top of the list: the safe deposit box. And why not? The vaults the safe deposit boxes are stored in are behind heavy steel doors, under lock and key, and closely guarded by the bank’s top-flight security system. But not matter how secure, not everything belongs in a safe deposit box – even certain important documents that might seem like they do. Take this yes-or-no quiz to see what you should, and shouldn’t, be storing in a bank safe deposit box. Some of the answers will surprise you....."

I got 7 of 8 correct. I wasn't sure about the answer on passports.
I might need to make an emergency trip to a country w/o extradition...
But they'd be a real hassle to replace. I use a wall safe at home.

I also answer 7 of 8 correctly. I have a safe at home, but not a wall safe.:crash:

5 of 8, mainly because I disagree with the logic of the 3 “wrong” answers.

Cheers

I got half right but this is moot for me because we don't have a safe deposit box. We decided long ago, after having one, that we were better off without one. We have home safes.

The original will should not be keep in a bank safe deposit box. The key is someone honest should know where that will is. Please, please keep your will current and up to date. Name a honest executor, who can keep records and money in order. Have all your deeds, bank accounts, saving accounts and insurance policies in a secure location with up to date beneficiaries. Please spell out what you want everyone to have in you will.

If you are divorced or separated you need to make some changes ASAP.

Just remember that a bank's safe deposit box is not water/flood proof. Many people believe they are. Hurricane Katrina ruined many original documents kept in New Orleans banks' safe deposit boxes.

... this is mute for me...

I doubt you're mute about much. More than likely, it's moot.
<didn't expect the spelling-police?>

BTW, my wall safe is high enuff up (and on a hill), so it won't be flooded.
Only being whisked away by a tornado could the contents be affected...
Not that there's anything of great value inside.

I did not know a bank safe was not water / flood proof. Thanks for sharing that piece of information.

I got 3 out of 8 correct. We do have a safe deposit box and feel pretty good about what we have stored there. With all of the "authentic" stuff, I also have copies at home just in case.
