Love the pictures and thanks for posting! HHV rocks and is a great spot — I look forward to next return trip! Enjoy it...

Best,

Greg

We agree. We are there now and have been since January. We love it so much that we just bought a
2 BR condo at the Wailana across the street from the Kalia Tower. It is not the HHV but the HHV, Diamond Head, the Mountains and the Ocean is all in view from the Lanai. Couldn't get enough!

I'm so jealous! But happy for you. Does this mean you'll sell some of your HGVC deeds?

Those are great pictures. Could you repost them in the View From The Balcony thread?
Yes. I did post a couple already. But, following along this thread, there is more to Oahu than tall buildings.... Here are some pics I took today while driving around Diamond Head and up the coast.

I signed today the docs for another week a HHV. So, as I dig deeper into timeshares, can I be politically incorrect and ask what you paid for the Condo?

Thx. I think too many people come to Waikiki and just stay here, and don’t explore the island. I tell people, reserve a car (before you go, way less expensive) and spend at least one full day driving around the island.

Agreed. My prior comments were specific to Waikiki. I went there once and really, really don't like toe place. I know some do, but I just don't. Most of Honolulu as well. The rest of Oahu has some nice things to offer. Honestly, it's still my least favorite of the 4 major islands, and the one I just don't need to visit anymore, but it still has some amazing scenery that screams HAWAI'I!

Cheers.

Perhaps after we get our affairs at home on Long Island settled. We are in the process of deciding where we will live and for how long each year, whether to sell the house, who will be or won't maybe be living with us etc., then depending on those decisions we will see about timeshares.

It is Leasehold fro 50 years, it is not fee simple. $190K but must pay about 1K/month for the lease.

Of course, there’s always the North Shore, which is entirely different than Honolulu. Last year I spent a week in Waikiki, but then a few days at Turtle Bay along the North Shore.
We spent some time at Turtle Bay a few weeks ago and went by some other beaches close by. All so beautiful.

A 90 plus old turtle was sleeping on Turtle Beach and then a second one joined her later. Her name was Nani and she was big! A volunteer showed up immediately to make sure that people gave her enough room.

Congratulations to you that you bought a condo where you like to live and have such a nice view from the Lanai. How exciting and enjoy!

Thank you all for your nice thoughts about our decision. We were spending months at the HHV in a timeshare, but we wanted more time and wanted our own place larger place which we wouldn't have to move in and out of and could eventually just stay in when we got tooo old to travel.

That is wonderful. Congratulations on buying where you want to live. We always say buy a timeshare where you want to stay, but you one-upped that advice! So happy for you.

We have friends who just moved a year ago to Maui from Oahu, and they are very homesick for Oahu. They thought Maui would be their dream life, and they both have jobs, so it wasn't about work. I can see them moving back to Oahu again. Strange how one place just draws you like that.

All of the islands are so different. You would never know it's the same state, going island to island.

We go to Oahu next Friday for a week. I am so excited. We will be at Ko Olina and at Aulani. So excited to stay in both places. Rick is excited about Aulani.

Congratulations on your new addition. Will you Airbnb the unit when you are not there? or leave it vacant? If the former, I would imagine that you could rent for a significant sum that would offset much of your HOA fees and other expenses for the unit.

I've considered that it would be nice to have a place in Waikiki as we get older to spend as a second home. Waikiki has buses, restaurants, walking trails and activities close-by which provides an ideal location to serve the needs of older folks.

Probably a different thread, but doing a bit of quick math, if you were to rent that out for, say, 3 months at $300/nt, you’d cover all your monthly costs AND generate a nice return on that $190k outlay. 90 days at $300=$27,000. That leaves a $15k return on the $190k, about 8%. And you can live in Waikiki for 9 months.

We've thought about the same thing on Maui or Hawai'i. This is the ultimate case of "buy where you want to stay" :)

Cheers.

Plus as real estate, it will be worth close or more than what you paid.

I heard the penthouses at the Ala Moana sold for $20 mil down the street.
