My daughter convinced me to go camping this weekend... just 2 nights. Real camping... in tents... at Cunningham Falls State Park in Thurmont, MD. I haven't done this in over 20 years.

It's been raining nonstop for hours!! Not just raining... pouring!!

Hats off to the true campers who do this all the time. But I'd rather be timesharing.

Camping in the rain is the worst, especially in a tent. We usually don't have rain when we camp (fall is pretty dry here) but we did it once in May while in Yosemite. No thank you. It sounds like at a minimum, it was one night too many.

Think of it, any timeshare you go to from now on will look great!

So I suspect that this doesn't look like fun? :D :D :D I agree, it's not for everyone, but our family loves it.

We are going to the Sierras, staying in a TS, next summer. My sister suggested that we camp at Yosemite. No can do. My last true camping experience was as a Middle Schooler GS. My 5yr old will have us eaten by bears because he is a constant snacker. And I don't like bugs nor lack of showers/toilets.

No. Really. I just don't like camping- or even cooking (and cleaning up) outside. In fact- at home we got rid of our barbecue! LOL!

The other problem I have with camping (which is a personal problem)... I'm a night owl. Everyone else was ready to go to sleep by 1030-11pm. I was wide awake with nothing to do... in the dark during what seemed like a monsoon. So I played on my tablet until I nodded off and dropped it on my chest. And it was quite uncomfortable for a lady "of a certain age" on a twin-size air mattress with no headboard and pillows to make sitting on a bed comfortable.

Glad to be back home!

I did agree to consider "Glamping" in the fall. They can sleep outside, I'll be in a cabin or perhaps a rented RV. Something with walls, running water and a bathroom.

It was cool- but dry- here over the weekend. I just heard on the radio that Stanley Idaho in the beautiful Sawtooth Mountains was 38 degrees this morning. I can imagine the intrepid campers trying to rejuvenate the campfire and clutching their coffee cups in their cold, stiff fingers.

Been there, done that. Now, my idea of 'roughing it' is a B&B!

We have rented an RV a few times when we camp in April (sometimes snow, sometimes rain, sometimes 20 degrees). That would be a great choice for you, imho. It's warmer, if it's cold or rainy you can get out of the elements, but you can still hang around a campfire in the evening.

"Glamping" would be my only concession to camping these days too, though I would add a yurt to your list above. Loved camping when I was a kid. My parents, cousin and I spent three months one Summer traveling the US, our car pulling our tent top camper. We stayed mostly in state and national parks. Hubby and I tent camped early on in our marriage and later spent weekends sleeping in sleeping bags in the cabin of our 22' sailboat. A few years ago, after the second night we slept on the v-berth of friends' 42' new sailboat, we looked at each other and said, "We're too old for this." Yurt "glamping" is the most we've done since.

Nope. Hate it. A hotel room with no kitchen is as close to camping as I want to get!

I have aged out of camping too. Saying that my most memorable nights were spent camping in some spectacular places. The time I spent backpacking in the high peaks of the Adirondacks with the scouts are some of the most important days of my life.
