Just checked on a couple of friends who have been in Nola the past few days. They say it's not too bad right now. Original flights out were Sunday, they managed to get moved up to today at 6am. That flight was delayed until 5pm and now canceled.

FLIGHT STATUS Canceled: Your flight from New Orleans to Washington is canceled because of severe weather conditions on the way to your destination.

NWS reports that the Mississippi River crested overnight, with just 1 foot of storm surge, but another crest is expected around Monday

I sit corrected . . . before I was looking at NWS radar, which does not show very far out. Now that I look at satellite of the Gulf, there's still a lot more coming for Nawlins.

I corrected myself 3 minutes before your post, and explained why I saw it (the leading edge) hitting so far east, which it has.

Actually, though, I don't have it going in any direction . . . someone else does.

;)

The residents down there must really love living in that area. It seems at least every couple years they get pounded by some tropical storm or hurricane and some are still living in FEMA trailers from a few years ago.

You are looking at Barry!

Barry is the guy who goes to those public auctions of abandoned Storage Lockers in California. It is a television program called "Storage Wars" and see who the high bidder is.

Then the camera follows the high bidder to see what they purchased (junk or treasure).

I don't believe Barry every struck it rich, but he did like to talk a lot!

Anyways, it appears they have now named a storm after him. Not really, but they did use his name, lol.

@silentg - as @TheTimeTraveler notes, that is Barry Weiss of "Storage Wars" fame. He (Barry) would be a very interesting fellow to spend a day with.

Barry did find several items on the show that brought some big dollars but the most interesting aspect of Barry was (is) his collection of cars and motorcycles and the people he knows (most likely from his days as a in the produce business in California). On one episode, he needs a drum set appraised, so he calls up his friend Stuart.

That is Stuart Copeland.

Of The Police fame.

Barry did many things out of the ordinary and made the show fun. He dressed up undercover as an old woman, hacking and spewing as part of an effort to distract people from assessing a locker. It worked.

He was great fun on that show.

I also enjoyed Barry Weiss on Storage Wars, I hope he is recovering, he had a bad motocycle accident in April and I haven’t seen an update since then. He was in ICU with broken ribs, leg and internal injuries.

As of June 15, 2019 Barry Weiss was out of the Hospital and doing voice over work for a Casino according to an article I read.

Kind of confusing, there are some 14"-18" Storm Totals in the Gulf south of Biloxi, in what was the leading eastern bands . . . but, the main storm is just now getting to Nawlins, and there is already some 8"-12" Storm Totals in the Gulf south of Nawlins. So, that's what's coming, as advertised.

The leading edge spin-off is already as far north as Kentucky and Missouri.

As an aside, thank goodness for the NOAA and they website. So many websites these days with radar are forcing cookies and advertising blocks to be turned off....

Looking at a loop of the Gulf now at: https://cdn.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES16/ABI/GIFS/GOES16-GM-GEOCOLOR-1000x1000.gif

I do NWS: https://radar.weather.gov/Conus/southmissvly_loop.php

You can click on an area and get local radar. You can get one-hour and storm totals and velocity, too.

So far the heavier rainfall has been offshore, 14"-16". Onshore the heaviest is in Mississippi, 5"-6".

The leading edge of the righthand side heavy stuff has made it to Memphis. Looks like that body will be tracking east of where predicted.

Some tornadoes are being spawned in LA and MS.

It just keeps coming, and it's huge, stretching well over 800 miles North-to-South, and two states wide.

There is a large area of 18" out in the Gulf, and 14" that is currently tracking over Baton Rouge, and 10"-12" in MS between Jackson and Tupelo, and only about 4" in Nawlins. Already 3" as far north as Bowling Green, KY.

I sometimes wonder where in the world the national news media gets this stuff. The BTR airport, located in north Baton Rouge, has recorded 2.61 inches in the past 48 hours. Our house, located in southwest Baton Rouge, has recorded 3.02 inches in the past 48 hours.

I would say the national news gets it from NWS, which I have 99.9999% faith in. The link below is timely, of course, but it shows how spotty the total rainfall can be. Nawlins, frinstance, dodged the bullet, getting just 2"-4" inches, while way over there on the west, near Lake Charles, there is an area that has received more than 24".

Yup, 24".

https://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=lix&product=NTP&overlay=11101111&loop=no

& for that area by Lake Charles, there's more coming:

https://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=POE&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=yes

While, it's stopped in BR and Nawlins:

https://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?product=N0R&rid=lix&loop=yes

The leading edge is now all the way up to St. Louis, while the trailing edge is all the way down around Corpus Christi, 1000 miles!!!!

I was only speaking of Baton Rouge which you said had received 14 inches of rain. Didn't happen anywhere in the Baton Rouge metro area.

The fat lady's singing.

Nawlins wound up with 2"-4", Baton Rouge with 6"-8", from Lake Charles NE quite a ways over 15", a large area of MS 10"-12", an area N of Texarkana 12"-15", an area around Memphis 10"-12", and what's left is still coming down heavy in the Hot Springs area.
