I’m trying to find a post. A Tugger was traveling abroad and required emergency surgery. It may have been his heart and I think it was in Germany but I’m not certain. I know he was really happy with his medical care and I believe he had good travel insurance.

Could anyone point me to that thread.

I want to know what travel insurance he used. Thanks.

Yep. That was me. We buy through www.squaremouth.com/ You can side-by-side compare policies.
The one we had on that trip was issued by Global Alert.

Hi Jim,
Do you have a link to the thread about your experience?
Thanks.
Yes. Here: https://www.tugbbs.com/forums/index.php?threads/insurance-for-foreign-travel.276994/ thanks for bringing this up. It gave me a chance to revisit the experience. It actually started exactly one year ago today.

FWIW, all is well, the ol' ticker seems to be as good as can be expected for an old codger. I'd even consider going back to the German hospital if the pacemaker needed upgraded, or even a battery change (in 10 years).

Thanks all for causing me to resurrect this thread. Several have read it- or re-read it now, a year after the incident. I know it was lengthy, but for those who travel internationally, and especially those on Medicare, which as far as international travel is concerned is much closer to traveling UNINSURED, it's important to know.

Timing is important when purchasing trip insurance. Many of the benefits of a travel policy change 14 - 30 days after the initial deposit on the trip. The best policy prices I have found with the best coverage for International travel are bought when I purchase my airline tickets. These policies may exclude pre-existing conditions but often cover sudden onset of a pre-existing condition. This means you are traveling with no symptoms of the pre-existing condition for a certain amount of time and if this condition occurs on the trip it is considered a sudden onset.

How is traveling with no symptoms of a pre-existing condition proven?
