More than 75% of emotional support animals are not that at all. I knew someone who faked it for her dog. Although her dog a little Boston terrier who was cute and completely good on a flight was not a service dog at all. That passenger should be banned from flying AA.
There's a difference between emotional support and service animals. Emotional support animals don't have the same training requirements as service animals, but they still serve a valid purpose. All the airlines now require paperwork for both; most likely due to abuse in the past. I'm not commenting on this specific incident, but on service/emotional support animals in general.

The paperwork can be printed online. I’m not saying ES animals are fake. I’m saying most are. Many serve a purpose for those with PTSD ETC but they are usually trained and are more SA.

I hope this flight attendant sued the passenger and the organization that issued the Emotional Support Animal documentation.

I was on a flight where someone brought a golden retriever on wearing a service animal vest. The dog either sat on my son's feet or in the young woman's lap so that my son got the dog's backside in his lap. Eventually the girl said that she bought the vest online and that the dog was not a service animal. The flight attendant reported her.

I have a friend who is a retired Navy nurse. After she retired she worked on contract with the Marines and worked with a lot of military with PTSD, and with service animals. She told us a few interesting things that I didn't know. In order to be a service animal the animal has to be able to perform three functions for its owner. And "he calms me down" is not a viable service. She also said that if a service dog is misbehaving that dog can be asked to leave the premises.

ES animals need to be trained and licensed as well. I know on my Special Needs Boards many parents will ask and it’s quite clear, a true ES animal has been trained to be as such. Especially if ES animal is to assist out in public.
