I have noticed quite a few posters are using the word dump in the sightings forum.
WHY???
Do we want to stay in dumps?
Do you need to take a ....
I vote we choose another word....
Just my 2 cents.

and, although I don't have time to research what you're saying, but a typo of the word 'bump' to pop the post to the top might be dump?

Speaking of words that have different connotations to others, in my husband's field the word "scrum" is used instead of "small meeting". I don't have any particular association with that word, but for some reason it is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me (as is "dump" to be honest). In the big picture it's no big deal and is certainly *my* problem, but I still have the exact same reaction to the words. :)

Edit to add my #1 fingernails-on-the-chalkboard word (dump and scrum pale in comparison): CALI

There is nothing worse to my ears. Nothing.

LOL, I shudder just reading nails on a ......

Your hubby must be a PM, sometimes those scrums go back and forth like the rugby “meeting” they are named for, butting heads and pushing back.

"Scrum" is a term used in the Agile methodology. Is your husband in IT?

Interesting reaction to both dump and scrum. I have never heard "scrum" used that way before, but suspect it comes from someone who was a rugby player. In rugby or rugger, "scrum" (more properly scrummage), is where all the players gather around to restart play with the ball, because play has been stopped for some reason. "Line of scrimmage" in North American football is also derived from it. Sorry if I have caused you to hear more nails on chalkboard!!

Husband is a software engineer. But scrum seems like a common term based upon the responses here. In the accounting world we call a scrum a meeting :p

Go figure I learned something new today. Never heard the word scrum before. Clearly anything IT is out of my league. Lol.
