Anyone that’s been there recently- have they changed to paper straws or are they still using plastic?

We visited Westin Los Cabos last week and were told no straws. I actually applaud that especially because i am not sure the recycling process in Mexico is where it should be

I’m absolutely fine with the reason for eliminating plastic straws. I just absolutely hate the paper straws. They are falling apart before I can finish a frozen drink. Much prefer to bring my own metal straw if paper is the only option. Just wanted to know if I should pack them for our November trip.

Metal straw does not weigh much or take much space. Take it.

The other thing that bothers me about plastic straws, and I have noticed that at several resorts, sometimes they end up in the pool and they stay there until the next morning when the pool is cleaned.

We were served short bamboo straws at a S. California restaurant last year. It worked until we drank it down to the last 1.5 inch and we had to stick our faces into the glass to get the rest of the drink.

I like the paper straws.

BTW, I think this thread should win an award for best topic of the month.

Why don't they make straws out of hard candy, AKA sugar. It would be a one time use, relatively cheap and you could eat it after your fruity drink. If you happen to drop it, it may make a sticky mess, but some bird will probably happy.

Yuck. Besides the obvious...that it would dramatically change the flavor of the drink, some of us don’t eat sugar (and all of us should avoid it, but that’s another topic).

Your drink probably has a lot of sugar in it.

Not mine. Zero sugar. Care to try again?

Now I know where all the sugar is going. My drinks are just fine...mostly water, thank you very much.

I drink a lot of water myself. Rarely if ever drink soda, but when at a resort on vacation one sometimes has to indulge. No need to get so upset about it.

Hmm...you think I’m upset? I’m just worried about all the sugar you’re consuming...

Apparently you are. No need to get so worked up over sugar.

This seems to be a pattern with your posts. Whenever I contest your point, you change the issue. I’m not upset. Nothing I posted should indicate that, but go ahead and believe what you want. I’d think I should be the expert on how I feel, but whatever, tell me more.

Hey, drink whatever you want. I just made a suggestion which would actually work if drinking a frozen fruity drink. Somehow those that don't eat or drink sugar seem to look down on those that do, or those that they think do. Personally, I think plastic straws are just fine if properly disposed of. It isn't the straw that is the problem, it is the people that use them. Just like most other things...
