I don't have anything tattooed or pierced. Funny, you'd think as a 20-year career Navy sailor I'd have at least one. Something with an anchor on it, or a sailing ship, or a mermaid, or something. But truth be told, I've never found a design I like well enough to want to wear for the rest of my life. Until recently:
I've been thinking I'd like to have a tribal Honu design on my upper arm, that would fit under the sleeve of a t-shirt. Unlike so many, if I do this, it'd be for my enjoyment, not to show off to the world. The idea of it is appealing, but so far, I have no finalized artistic designs.
My connection to Hawaii is deep and honorable, and I identify with the Honu as my aumakua. Wearing it as a symbol of that honor and respect would be very meaningful to me.
We'll see. I'll be in Hawaii for three weeks next year.
