I have a simple Android phone question

I have a simple phone question, which I'm sure someone here can answer.

I have switched to an Android phone from an iPhone. My iPhone uploaded everything on my phone to my iCloud account. So, I assumed my information from my new android phone would be backed up to Google drive, and my Google account has my cell phone number listed in it as my phone number.

But, photos and so forth on my Android phone do not show up on my Google account. How do I get my Android phone to automatically upload everything to my Google account?

Phone photos synch with Google Photos:

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
Sign in to your Google Account.
At the top, tap Menu .
Select Settings Back up & sync.

Phone photos sync with Google Drive:
To automatically add photos and videos from Google Photos to Google Drive: On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Drive app . In the top left, tap Menu Settings . Under Google Photos, turn on Auto Add.

I recall an email recently that Google is going to merge the two together soon.

Hi, Dave. I was able to follow your advice using the Photo app and that seems to be working; thank you.

At first, I tried to use my Google Drive app, but I couldn't figure out where the "Google Photos" option was in Google Drive. I've tapped the three horizontal lines on the top left of my Google Drive app -- that's the first step, right? That brings up options labeled:
Recent
Offline
Trash
Notifications
Backups
Settings
Help & feedback
Storage

Then I tried tapping on Settings, but I don't see anything called Google Photos. Instead, under Settings, I see these options:
Upgrade Storage
Backup and reset
Notification settings
Choose theme
Clear cache
Cache size
Transfer files over Wifi on/off

This is a Samsung phone, and I find that Samsung is always trying to substitute their apps for genuine Google ones. Could that be the problem?

I just got the Samsung S10e.

It looks like the link to Google Photos in Google Drive is in:

Settings->Backup and Reset->Photos and Videos.

Just make sure its on and set to your correct google account. There are some other settings in there also.

You might have to create a folder in Drive and manually upload a few photos so that you get the prompt to “Allow Access” for Google Drive to your phone photos.
