When I first saw the title of this thread, I knew that most Americans would immediately and correctly assume it referred to 10-pin lane bowling. As a Canadian my first reaction was to ask: "lane or lawn"? Assuming the reply would probably be the former, my follow-up question would then be: "10-pin or 5-pin"? Many of our lanes here are now the American 10-pin, but when I was growing up most of them were the Canadian-style 5-pin lanes.
That in turn somehow reminded me of the scene in the 1975 movie 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' where King Arthur and his entourage must cross a bridge to get across the Gorge of Eternal Peril. But first they must answer some questions. If they answer incorrectly they will be raised up and tossed into the gorge.
The first two questions are quite easy, but the third question is: "What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?" The King replies, "What do you mean? African or European swallow?" The gatekeeper says, "I...I don't know that" and immediately gets raised up and tossed down the gorge and the King and his entourage can pass. One of the funnier moments in a brilliant comedy filled with many such moments.
I shake my head in amazement at what can trigger certain memories!!
