Check eBay , one listing for $9k.

IF they don't charge you an escrow fee and any other charges, that is pretty close to market. Check Redweek, the brokers are usually motivated to make a deal.

I bid on one recently for no particular reason, and was sweating bullets until I was outbid in the last 10 seconds. I even had to confess to my husband. That made me realize that I don't need another one right now, lol.
Did the same thing two years ago. Bid on eBay...thrilled that I was the top bidder and then, I thought it through...kept my fingers crossed that I would lose. I did. I did not confess. I just stopped looking on eBay after drinking too many glasses of wine.

I started thinking about amassing more and more, even took in a stray in Arkansas for a year . . . considered it "foster care" until I could rehome that puppy. (I had it for such a short period of time, I cannot even remember its name.)
Um, maybe Fairfield Bay? Maybe even the Mountain Ridge section? One of the first timeshares ever built.

I was given one, exchanged it through the Fairfield FAX program for several years, then gave it back to the association ($150 fee) when the FAX program ended. Bought a unit at an independent group for $1500 at Edisto Island, SC that has full privileges at the Wyndham Ocean Ridge property on which it sits

I have Hyatt and love it. I have been looking to buy in another system (HGVC), but no luck yet.

When I see really, really good deals on Hyatt I get the itch to add more to my collection, but have instead let friends / family know about the deals. That has worked well...one has closed and the other is in escrow. Lucky for them, they both got better deals than me (although I do feel I got great prices as well).

I have never bought a timeshare because I was bored, but I have bought a timeshare that I regretted later. Fortunately, I was able to give it away and I’m happy with the 4 I have now.

No it wasn't a Fairfield branded timeshare, I would have remembered it because at one time folks here and on the Wyndham timeshare group "the queen of fixed weeks" because I had a couple that I really used well in the RCI exchange system. But I never owned FF in Arkansas.

I have done very well on ebay. Just depends. Always got to get the right price.

I Confess. I bought my very first TS at DRI South Bend EY 1BR1BA6 for $1 largely because I was bored and really wanted to own TS. I may come to regret this. We will see in a couple of years.

My next five (5) TS, all $1 with four (4) Wyndham easy to give away via Ovations, were solid. This includes a Wyndham Grand Desert 105k EY, with seller paying closing and transfer costs and with $5.33MF/1k.

Results so far:
15 have bought TS being bored or impulsive
22 haven't.

I fall into the former. I bought one (1) largely because I was a TS newbie and really, really wanted a resale TS. Let's see if I regret this in a couple of years. Other five (5) were solid buys, including four (4) Wyndham bought for $1 that can be given back via Ovations, though.

Our timeshares were all bought on purpose. One of the Worldmarks was a last second ebay bid that upset some bidders. I usually wait until the last minute to bid regarding ebay. We bought all but two of our timeshares off ebay.

The one impulse buy was a deeded week that for $29 would trade into 10,000 Worldmark points. We bought this week off ebay while we were at Morritts. It was an impulse buy that seemed good at the time but times change.

Bought my first two direct from the state of CA for Newport Coast on a tax auction. Thought I would get a good deal there, but boy did some people really over pay, ouch!! My other two Newport Coast I purchased on ebay. Seem like the market is always in line for this location, but again have seen it sell it for way to cheap on ebay. Not sure if the resort stepped in on those deals. I also negotiated a week 52 for the Westin on Maui I found on ebay after the auction was over, but the resort stepped in and bought. I was so bummed and so was the seller. Resort took almost a year to close on it. Total disaster for the seller and me as well.

Hi Kevin,

Could you expand a little on the tax auction purchase at NCV, there is another thread about these auctions. What do you mean about overpaying? Did you end up paying delinquent maintenance fees to Marriott as well as taxes to Orange County?

No delinquent fees had to be paid, just people bidding more than what is would cost you to purchase them on Redweek or ebay. People got caught up in the auction and some didn't know what they were bidding on. I even saw an every other year sell for over 6k. ouch! Gold weeks were selling for closer to 7k, ouch.. I grabbed one on ebay for $3,500 all in.. County just did a good job of hyping them up in my opinion. Transfer fees were dirt cheap, but the county didn't issue the title right and it took awhile to get that fixed too. I bought two in that auction for 16,800 all in, wasn't a smoking deal, but a fair deal..
