One of the few current reporters I respected.

I didn't realize she was that age. I thought she was younger. Definitely a respected face/voice who will be missed.

Excellent Biography/Obituary. I have her book "Founding Mothers" on my Kindle but haven't read it yet, I'll have to move it up on my reading list.
I've enjoyed listening to her political commentary since her early days on NPR in the late 70's.

RIP Cokie. I'm going to miss you and your incisive wit.

I have thought of Breast Cancer as a primarily younger woman's disease. 40's and 50's. And that post menopausal woman were pretty much beyond the risk- Like Prostate Cancer in men that if discovered past a certain age you'd probably die with it than from it. But my wife tells me that even senior women and men need to continue our cancer screenings even after we think the danger is past. Damn. I thought we were through all that.

I just hope that Cokie Roberts' passing will prompt more people to keep up their cancer screenings.

Hi Jim,

Cokie's Breast Cancer was first diagnosed in 2002 when she was 58. It went into remission for a long time but sadly returned about 3 years ago.

My wife is a 5-year Breast Cancer survivor. She keeps up her screenings/follow ups religiously.

Excellent! My wife's mom developed breast cancer in her late 60's and died of some unexplained dementia and/or the cancer before 80. Wife had Chronic Lymphostatic Leukemia (CLL) 3 years ago, and treatment (very expensive) has it below detectible levels. They won't call it 'remission' but they can't detect it. We'e hoping for the best. Even with this, she keeps up the scans, etc.

This old age business is not for the poor or timid. It ain't easy (or cheap) getting old!
