DVC + TPU - What to expect?

Hello! I'm a newbie to all of this and trying to book at a DVC resort in April. I know I need to do an ongoing search to land an exchange. Here are my questions:

How many TPU's do you generally need for a DVC?
Does being a Platinum RCI member actually help? Save money?
Is there a list of the DVC properties available with their corresponding number or do I have to go through the **SUPER FUN** RCI site and find them all?

I realize the OP didn't specify WDW DVC, but the assumption is there since that's 99.9% what is being talked about when talking about RCI to DVC exchanges. So an FYI that this list includes the non-Orlando DVC properties, namely Aulani, Grand Californian, Vero and Hilton Head.

The TPU will generally be quite high unless you are booking last minute, a few to several weeks before check-in. If you join TUG ($15/year) you will be able to see the Sightings Board, which includes a *lot* of data on what exchanges have been possible and what they've required in terms of TPU.

Platinum does sometimes give you access to Weeks deposits that aren't available to you otherwise. DVC has been among those, though I don't know that I'd do it just because of that. It can save some money, but probably doesn't. I have it but I can't say that I know I've saved money with it, but I renew it anyway. Sigh.

And pretty much all your going to see available in RCI is Sarasota Springs Resort.

You will get some OKW and AKV 1 bedrooms occasionally. Never anything else. I asked the DVC person that does all of the RCI reservations and that's what they said.

I don’t think I’ve seen an AKV sighting or match reported here in a couple of years. I know I matched one for March 2017 but I really don’t recall if I’ve seen anyone report it since.

If you were a TUG member, you’d know that was wrong, even in the past year or so. In particular, I stayed in BRV on an exchange this past Feb.

The sightings board (accessed only by TUG members) lists the DVC sightings and last matches. It also includes some information on TPU costs. If you have paid for membership but don't have access, contact the TUG administrator

Search for resort code DV06 (SSR) as that will be 99% of the available inventory. I'm a points member and Platinum lets me see some expensive "Priority Access" inventory on occasion that's not available to non platinum members . DVC deposits both points and weeks so you might not see everything I do if you are using a weeks account. Short notice reservation are available and often discounted (as long as what you want is a 1 bed at SSR and you can travel on short notice) and finally if you are using an orlando based timeshare Disney has a regional block that will not allow an exchange with an orlando based resort (mini systems are excluded)
