A sad day. One of the nicer things to do to pass the time leisurely and in some style on longer distance train trips is to enjoy a meal.

I find the comment odd that supposedly millennials don't like the dining car experience because they want more privacy and not have to sit with a bunch of people they don't know. Could that be the result of having their phones in front of their faces and the ear buds plugged in all the time? If so, the inability/inexperience to interact with others near them might explain that theory.

However, that is not my personal experience with most millennials. I know lots of them that have no problem interacting with others and they also love to go out to dinner in nice restaurants. Why is that so different than eating in a dining car? Sounds more like an excuse on the part of Amtrak to simply shave some expenses, rather than provide a superior customer service experience.:shrug:

This is very sad story. I feel this is just another reason by Amtrak to reduce staff and services to their loyal passengers. IMHO.:shrug::shrug::shrug:

I heard all of that but once I heard that Amtrak will be saving $2 million dollars a year. - I said, they are full of baloney, the reason they are eliminating full service dining is because they are saving $$$$$.

We did enjoy the full-dining service and that was many years ago.

I travel Amtrak often. For me this might be better due to clear marking of gluten free options whereas with full dining there was none.

I will be traveling in a few weeks again and will report back on what I think as well as my other half. He loved the full dining option. It will be interesting what he thinks.

What is $2 million dollars a year in saving. That is a drop in the bucket. Amtrak needs to look at waste in maintenance costs and overhead costs in higher management positions. IMHO.
