Heck- I have eaten them all and I love them all! But we mainly use whole wheat and whole grain.

I was surprised to see bagels rank below white sandwich bread. To me that (the white sandwich bread) is the worst.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's. Even back then my mother (influenced by her father) was into good nutrition. We always had whole wheat bread. For some reason I never thought Wonder Bread was a treat. It had no tasted to me and was too soft and squishy.

I simply buy whichever of the Orowheat breads is cheapest that week -- Oatnut, multigrain, wheat or whatever brown bread. We keep two loaves in the freezer and rotate them out. I say "we" but Cliff hasn't got a clue. The only time we have "white bread" is if we buy a loaf of French (or frozen garlic bread) when making chili, stew or lasagna. Mom bought Wonderbread for at least awhile when we were kids just because it was so heavily advertised. I think I was at a client's house and was helping make a PB&J snack for her kids just so we could get back to the business of draperies. The Wonderbread was not unlike the velvet I was showing her -- really weird soft texture after not having been exposed to it for so long.

We're very fortunate to live in a fantastic bread area. The best bagels are a block away. The best baguettes are a ten-minute drive. Fortunately the baguette bakery also has the most fantastic whole-grain multigrain sliced loaf, or I would be chowing down on bagels and baguettes every day, pretty much.

I’ve eaten almost all of them. Glad I See sourdough as somewhat healthy. Disappointed that wheat and multigrain aren’t that healthy.

I understand. Wheat is number 9 though.

I am not sure any bread can be healthy. While not total junk food the nutrition from bread is no where near worth the calories.

I remember that commercial but I think it said 12 ways instead of 8.

It was 8 ways until the '60s, then more nutrients were added and it became 12..

Yup. Some foods that seem very healthy can cause problems. Seems like anything processed is junk. I had to change my diet and now have a hard time eating many of the things I use to. Good luck with the change. Better now when you don't have to than to wait until you have no choice, imo.

I like to butter a bagel, grill the buttered side, and use it for a grilled Spam and cheese sandwich. Maybe I should start using whole wheat bread instead of bagels.

Your childhood sounds like mine. I grew up when Mom's rarely worked. My Mom got a part time job and the two nights a week she worked was spam. Like you said it was the only thing he could cook.

I like mine with saracha and soy sause. Mom would sometimes cut a carrot thin and put it in the spam wrap. I haven't had any of this stuff for a few years now. I replaced it with oatmeal, lol.

Yes! Oscar Mayer bologna on white Wonder Bread with mayo and mustard. And a 6 cents bottle of coca cola.

You can find spam musubi everywhere in Hawaii. I have some every time we go.

I use the Costco nori to wrap seafood these days. Mostly salmon or cod. We keep a few cases of spam in the pantry just because it seems to last forever. The kids and grand kids like it.
