The disadvantages are the maintenance fees are on the higher end. Not including the program fee, St Thomas is $6.41 per 1,000 points. That 42 cents per 1,000 higher then CWA.

Yeah, that's what stopped me from getting too interested in Margaritaville deeds. The cost for a deluxe studio at the new Nashville location ends up being about $580 for just a 2-night weekend.

I am not sure if you are referring to cash costs or maintenance fee costs? It sounds like maintenance fee costs. A two night weekend (Friday night and Saturday night) in a studio deluxe would cost me 84,000 in prime season and 70,000 in high season. That’s $581 in maintenance fees for prime and $490 for high season for Margaritaville points.

I looked at hotels.com for a prime season date in March. $489 a night for a “Deluxe” room. Add in the $154 in taxes and fees, and the total comes out to $1,131. Almost double my maintenance fees. Now, if I had a VIP or Margaritaville owner willing to rent to me for $6 per 1,000, it would be cheaper then my maintenance fees (by almost a whole $35), however, I like having control over my reservations and being able to cancel without losing money. To each their own though.

By the way, in case you’re wondering. A high season date is $391 and change, per a night. With $124 taxes and fees, it’s a total of $908 and change. Still almost double my maintenance fees.

Welk has managed to negotiate a deal/partnership/arrangement with Disney. It goes quite well when they're giving their sales pitch, "Own at Welk, Stay at Disney"!
