Currently here for about a week-long stay at Marriott canyon villas.
Since my last visit last August seems that they have freshen up the place looks recently redecorated nice touch.

today we drove over to the JW and was surprised to see that self parking charges $8. I don't ever recall having to pay $8 to self park at the JW.not sure if that's a permanent thing or because they had some sort of event going on now. The JW pool is really quite empty. Yes I know there's a shuttle but you prefer to come and go as we please. Not that $8 is going to make or break me but it's just one of those irritating things. Also at the JW have they have some exclusive chairs at the Griffin Bay. despite the fact that you can clearly see it's empty
exactly they are charging $15 to reserve for the comfy chair on the Plush Lounge.

Last visit I saw the paid section by the pool. I do not believe they had a parking charge at the JW at that time. Hope you enjoy your visit. The lazy river at the JW is one of our favorites.

Kids are back in school. Hotel is not at full occupancy at all. Acres of empty lounges both reserved for a fee and the free lounges. On days like this you would think they would cut back on the reservation fee. But NO they are looking to increase revenue. Oh Well!

Not going to let it spoil my vacation either. Yes having a great time. I will get to go out and explore the other pools here at Canyon Villas tomorrow and let you know how they look.

We also own at Canyon Villas. I recall reading (maybe in the GM's update) that the JW recently implemented the new $8 self-parking fee. I believe it is intended to be a permanent fee and was not related to a particular event at the hotel. As you noted, by taking the shuttle rather than driving you can avoid the fee. We also preferred the flexibility of driving and self-parking but will now generally take the shuttle.

The JW Manager presented at the last Canyon Villas annual meeting (November, 2018) The parking fee is new and permanent. You can walk or take a free shuttle. Call to ask. I think they validate parking if you pay at a restaurant or at the spa.

If you own, there is an owner's group on Facebook
