The state of South Carolina and its citizens should be very, very proud of this award.

Many residents of Charleston, like many in Amsterdam and Venice, have been hoping our city officials would move towards a downplay of tourism appeal in order to preserve the city, its environment and allow for a better quality of life. And then this ...again. Sigh.

Having just returned from hoards of tourists completely overrunning the major sites of Florence, Rome, and New York, I sympathize.

That said, my first visit to Charleston will be next May.

Charleston is a very nice city to visit and we hope to return one day.

I noticed that the Travel & Leisure survey was for 2016, but the Charleston site referring to it is 2019. Are they still #1? Either way I wouldn’t hesitate to visit.

Best regards.

Mike

For the year 2019 the # 1 City in the world was awarded to Hoi An, Vietnam by Travel & Leisure magazine.
Charleston, SC was ranked #12 for the year 2019.

Sorry. It was a headline in our newpaper today. I didn't link it because it might not let one read it if not a subscriber so I just Googled for the article and must have come up with Travel & Leisure instead of Conde Nast. My bad!

Here is our paper's article today:

Good luck with that. :) It's a beautiful time to be here. The weekends are the worst.

Of course. Just wish they'd keep it a secret. ;)

Sorry, explained above. It wasn't Travel & Leisure but Conde Nast.
