Life is rarely as interesting as the movies would have us believe. So the added elements are fine by me. The basic storyline is accurate, which is more important, I think.

Haven't seen the movie, so I can't really have an opinion on it. In the end, Edison was destined to lose, for practical reasons. DC has more resistance over distances. To run a electrified city, you'd have to have generators all over the town. Think of that expense. . .

The higher the AC frequency the less the resistance loss. The big power lines you see at at very high frequencies, as well as high amperages.

I have read and watched documentaries about Edison and Tessla. It is a really interesting subject. The distribution of electricity and Tessla's Coil that could send electricity to devices is amazing. Other people have expanded on Tessla's work and wireless electricity through magnetic induction is the result. I read that Japan was working on a satellite that will beam electricity to devices via microwave.

Then there is the recent inventions of Salvatore Pais that seem to prove magnetic induction is viable. I doubt that these inventions or ideals pick up much traction now but I bet it will be like the change from a horse cart to modern race car in a short time.

I agree in general, although I think if you were starting fresh now you'd probably do a DC system. Essentially all electronics need to run on DC, so they all have little rectifiers on the charging cords.

Plus, distributed generation is much easier now (natural gas and solar), so the transmission losses are less of a big deal. You could still use AC for long distance transmission from large power plants to cities. Or maybe even go AC to neighborhood substations.

People have been stealing electricity for many years by magnetic induction. One of the banes of big power lines. It is illegal, and people have been prosecuted. . .
