Call from Wyndham about earning income from RCI vacations

I received a call from Paula @ Wyndham asking if we were interested in renting out our points or our vacations through RCI. I told her we use all of our points and not interested. She then stated that we are not utilizing the RCI vacations we are allowed to use yearly. She said they could set us up to earn rental income off of these vacations by renting them out for us.

At the time, I was at work and couldn't access the website so she was going to call us back, which she did but I did not answer. I wanted to get some information on this before speaking with her and I do have her phone number.

Does anyone know what this is about? I am sure it is another way to get money out of us.

We never use RCI because we do not want to pay the extra fees associated with the usage. I know they offer cheap vacations, at times, but I have never heard of renting these vacations then re-renting them to earn money???? From what little she told me Wyndham would set it up so all we had to do was collect out rental income. Yeah Right!

Thanks for any info you all can provide.

Likely it wasn't Wyndham or RCI. It is a scam where they want to charge you an upfront fee and guarantee that they will rent out your weeks for $1200-$2000 per week. RCI doesn't allow members to rent out these weeks but these agents don't even try. They just want your money.

Back when they kept calling us I finally said okay. So we have 8 weeks a year, which if we do would be news to me, and how many did they want at $xxx? That I would send them a PayPal invoice and they could keep whatever profit the made over that amount. I said that's the deal take it or leave it. We didn't get anymore calls after that. Lol.

I get scam calls all the time from people trying to get me to rent out my unused timeshare weeks. The thing is I don't even own any timeshare weeks in my name. I assume they got my contact info when I bought from Westgate. Luckily I found TUG and rescinded, but it doesn't stop them from calling and trying to convince me how much money I could make renting a timeshare I don't even own!!

I got a call the other day (sounds like the one OP got). I always use my cell phone number (on guest confirmations). They asked for my nephew (who was the one who stayed - the room was in his name). What's that tell ya LOL?

This is exactly why I use my cell phone and email - trying to shield my renters from marketing scams.

Definitely a scam. RCI does not allow commercial renting anyway. Some people may get away with it for awhile, but as a general rule, they don’t allow it. Your membership could be canceled if they catch you renting for profit. Companies who actually do rent people’s weeks, don’t tell owners that. Same with points managers. They don’t tell owners that their account can be disabled if Wyndham finds out they gave their username and password to a third party. They are in it to make a profit. If you get disabled, they move on, and you can’t book reservations online.

I never get calls like that. The phone number on the account is my wife's mobile phone.

Sometime it's fun to string them along and ask to call back in an hour. If they call back, string them along again, and ask to call back in another hour.
