Hello,

I exchanged one of my units in Florida for a Studio at the Marriott Koolina in the greater Honolulu area.

Unfortunately due to some personal reasons we are no longer able to go.

What is the best way to rent it out or get some value from it so it doesn't go empty.

I have rented through REDWEEK many times before but have never actually put something for rent. On the FAQ it says putting interval international exchanges for rent is prohibited.

Not looking to make any money. Just looking to recuperate some of the maintenance/exchange fees if possible.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

Rental of II exchanges is not permitted. Your renters could turn up and have no room if the resort discovers it has been rented.

Could you perhaps donate the week to an organization or family in need?

You may be able to cancel and get a replacement week. Go into Interval and look up your trade under the history tab. There should be a "start retrade" button. You will have to pay another exchange fee for sure, and I can't remember what expiration date you will have but you may have up to 12 months. Just give Interval a call to get the details.

Yes, it's prohibited to rent your exchange. You don't need that hanging over your head. Much easier to pay another exchange fee and find a better week to use.

If the OP enrolled his Florida week and is a destination club member a Marriott to Marriott retrade is free. He would only have to pay an upgrade fee if he went up in unit size.

Another interval roadblock. Very frustrating dealing with them.

But I suppose nature of the business trying to exchange cheaper resorts into nicer resorts.

Out of curiosity how would they even know if I rented it to someone else? They do allow me to issue guest certificates as a platinum member.

or is it Redweek that won't even permit the listing in the first place?

Thanks for the advice.

99.9% of the time they won't find out. People do it all the time.

Redweek won't really care...they just want the listing fees.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but Redweek explicitly states and makes you sign that you own the week you are listing for rent, so you'd have to lie to list it. Most resort systems won't let you rent a unit that you don't own, including Marriott. Then there are people who test rental listings to see if they are exchanges (which is very easy to spot on the paperwork for the reservation), and report it to the exchange companies.

Do people rent exchanges? Yes. Can you get caught? Yes.
