Kurt - I now live in a townhouse development so halloween is a MEH thing for me now. But in my previous single family home, we had a huge halloween neighborhood. I, also, gave our full sized candy bars as it was so wonderful & joyful to see the reactions (I would give small fun sized to toddlers -- full disclosure). I would keep a tally from year to year on the number of trick or treaters we had b/c I never wanted to run short and I didn't want a ton of surplus either. There are a lot of variables in the prediction to account for including weather, the day of the week that halloween lands on, and the "generational effect" in the neighborhood at any given time.Kind of embarrassing to admit this, but I believe we still have all of our original notes, including a breakdown by 1/2 hour segments of when the little goblins arrived! What could you do with that data?
