I just called Marriott to add a name to a reservation. I sd I wanted to add someone, he sd will you still be going, I sd not sure yet. The name was added but I’m not sure why a felt a was being asked a trick question. At the end the rep on the phone said, just call us back if you know you won’t be going. I know I’m not going because I rented my week but I was just wondering why is that important for me to call? Should I have let him know I was renting my week?

It isn’t a trick question. They just want to leave your name on the reservation if you are going so you can check in if you arrive before the renter or other guest. I would call back and remove your name. Not doing so may make your renter nervous too.

Best regards.

Mike

You can change the name yourself on marriott.com. There is no need to call these days. It takes a few seconds.

You can even change the name for a reservation you book on marriott.com directly. The only type of reservation that cannot be changed is a points reservation, because the reservation name has to match the points account. Those can still be changed on the side by calling the hotel directly and letting them know someone else will be checking in.

As an "owner" on the reservation, you would more likely get a better location. When it's obviously being rented...I believe the "placement team" are more likely to stick your renter in a less desirable location.

This is the process I take now. Easier and has worked for my renters. It will send an updated email confirmation as well with the renters name on it...either to their email address (you can also update on Marriott.com) or in case you keep it as your email address.

A couple weeks ago they wanted to know whether to add the guest or replace my name with the guest. I told them to replace my name. I then received the confirmation in the renter’s name but under it I was listed as a guest. I’d never seen that previously.
