The "how long does it take for the unit to come back into inventory" question has been debated a few times.

My question is about my points rather than the unit. I'm looking at making a December reservation at Rio Mar in Puerto Rico. Due to limited unit availability for last minute reservations, we're compromising a bit on unit type and also having to book 5 night stay as 3 nights followed by 2 nights in a different unit.

I've been watching availability at this resort and it changes daily. If I book what's available today, there's a chance that a better option for our dates and preferred unit/view will become available later.

I'd need the points I'm reserving with to book the new availability. If I cancel a reservation (or 2), how will it take for the points to return to my account and be available to make a new reservation? Is it instant?

I cant tell you exact but I think its actually really quick. But it shows up first in the booking process rather then the points available screen. From what I remember it was pretty much immediate when you go to book something else and close to a day on the points available section.

It varies. Sometimes it's instant. Other times it could take 2 minutes or so.

Thanks very much for the replies! Anything between instant and 2 minutes would be fine for what I'd be trying to do. I just wanted to be sure the delay should not be like the unit returning to inventory (ie. could be instant, few minutes or some time tomorrow...).

I have found that if I log out after I cancel and immediately log back in, the points are back in my account. If I stay logged in and wait, it takes several minutes.

Should be instance unless you waited too long and entered the drop dead date. Check your point history to see if you were credited.
