Hi - we have stayed at Grande Vista several times. We have 2 timeshares reserved for the first week in December and recently filled out the online form with requests. They wrote back to let me know that these units are apartment style 2 bedroom villas and only located in West Village/Copa Loca area. Have any of you had experience with this? What is the difference in apartment style vs regular. We will have kids with us and want to be prepared. I will call with my questions, too, but wondered if any of you have stayed in this section. Any opinions on which of the buildings to request?
Thanks,
Sue

Most of the Grande Vista two bedroom Villas are lockoff style, but some are dedicated two bedroom Villas with no lockoff capability.

My guess is that apartment style 2 Bedroom Villas are those that do not lock off.

I'm sure Dioxide can clarify and confirm this.

Judging by what they told sueoz regarding the location, that would be my assumption as well...that they are dedicated 2 bedroom units as opposed to lockoffs.

Yes, they call the 2BR dedicated units in West Village "apartment style". You could request a switch to the 2BR lockoff type. The location is fine, close to Copa Loca and Casa del Sol pool area. Though a bit of a walk, across the bridge, to the main pool and clubhouse area. We have stayed here several times and liked the West Village.

Thanks! I have no problem with the area. Just wondered what apartment style meant. We have no need for lock offs. Is the pool area there a lot smaller than the main pool area? We have kids with us.

The pool there is probably better for kids. It has the only zero entry pool at Grande Vista and has a small water play area and some water cannons to annoy other swimmers.

We stayed in West Village in May and it was very nice location, definitely a lot nosier than the main part but would stay again. This was our view!

I like that side because you can avoid some speed bumps and the guard shack! After ou have keys, Take a left just before the guard shack.

I need one of those apartment style 2 bedrooms but I’m seeing on getaways on interval a lockoff with a max capacity of 8 people. Is it hard to request and get a standard two bedroom? Ideally I need two queen beds in the second bedroom.

Is there a specific unit code that applies to the dedicated 2 BR units?
I know the codes give bed configuration but does that vary in these units?
I have a TOVI coming up which I understand to be a 2 queens and a sofa bed.

The dedicated, or "apartment style" 2BR will always be TOVI. There is also the 2BR side of the 3BR LO. Though it has two twins in the second bedroom, it is THMV.

Thank you.
Do you know if all the TOVI are in west village?

Yes, all are in the West Village and only in four of the buildings. The ones not right against the pool.

The last couple of years the resorts (as a rule) have gotten very militant on unit types. To make this change one could very likely have to change the reservation, not just make a request. For an exchange it could be very difficult but it's still possible for the resort to get with reservations and change the room type even for an exchange, the only question is wether those involved are willing to do the work to do so. It would require doing so well in advance and still there would have to be availability.

For a direct Reservation the 2 BR non lockoff rather than the 2 BR part of a 3 BR is important to get the 2 queens in the second. Regardless the max occupancy will be 8.

I own a 3BR lockoff at MGV and we have never seen twin beds in the 2nd bedroom. We've ALWAYS gotten 2 queens in the 2nd bedroom.

I thought the 2 beds in the 3 BR were full not queens.

According to the resort info on villas on Marriott there are 2 different 3 BR configurations-

King in master
2 queen in 2nd
2 double in 3rd
Or
King in master
2 double in 2nd
King in 3rd

Interesting. We always stay in buildings 91 or 92 and the configurations in both buildings are:
King in master
2 Queens in 2nd bedroom
and
King (plus sofa bed) in the lockoff

I assumed all the 3BR LOs were the same but I guess not!

I don’t have first hand experience, I just needed to explore the room configuration to add an extra night to my week stay so I knew it was all spelled out on the resort page under villas.

Here is a photo of the third bedroom of a 3BR lock off in building 98. I did mispeak when I said twin. These are double beds. The difference between a double and a queen (width wise) is only 6"

These are the 3BR non lock off vs the lock off. The 3BR lock off has the two queens in the lock off side, just like with the lock off side of the 2BR. They change the order of the second and third bedrooms in the configurations. For the first, they consider the lock off studio the second bedroom, but in the dedicated 3BR, they consider what would be the lock off studio to actually be the third bedroom.

Hey, when you're in bed, 6 inches can make a big difference. ;-)
True, but to look at them, it can be easy to not notice that much of a difference.
