We were able to book into Maui for Week 52 this year using points and are now planning for next year as the point reservation booking window is about to open. Our family is looking at Aruba as a possibility. Is Aruba week 52 harder to book into than Maui? Have people been successful doing so using points at the 13 and 12 month windows? Is this a good time for a family to visit Aruba (not one of the crazy weeks I have ready about)? Make a difference which resort? As always, thanks for your help.
There are weeks in the trust in Maui, but not in Aruba, I don't think. Therefore a week 52 in Aruba may only be available for points if an owner of week 52 elects it for points. Which I don't think can happen.

At the Aruba Ocean Club, platinum season include all weeks 50-51-52 up to week 17.
So contrary to the Surf Club there should be some availability at that resort.

Why could it not happen? If someone who owns a week 52 fixed unit has enrolled that week into the Destination Club, why could they not choose to elect it for Points, thus making it available in the MVC Exchange for others to book with points? Someone who paid the week 52 premium might be reluctant to convert to points and might be more inclined to use, but since a week 52 OF is allocated over 8000 DC points, it could be attractive enticement for an enrolled owner to elect for points if they chose to travel somewhere other than Aruba.
Someone who has stayed on Aruba will know more, but small insight - we were in Aruba 12/31/18 on a cruise and the entire island really gets into fireworks - our ship pushed offshore just a bit and gave us a panoramic view of the midnight festivities. Lots of during the day noise-maker fireworks go off, too - fun & festive, or just a lot of noise, depending on your perspective. Visitors around Oranjestad seemed to be mostly families.

At the OC there are no Platinum Plus weeks, and given the relatively poor point allocation compared to rental value many owners choose to rent their week. There are no Aruba units in the trust. Even if an OC owner nabbed a week 51 or 52, they would only get a little over 4000 points. With the high rental rates already mentioned, a savvy owner would fare much better renting. SC has Plat. Plus holiday weeks and owners do get a nice amount of points, but they can rent out their units in the $1 a point range so, again, most will either occupy or rent.

I suspect a lot of owners don't want to screw with rentals and would just opt to convert to points if they were enrolled and didn't want to go to Aruba. So much easier. The rental value would cause some to choose to rent, but not everyone tries to maximize the $$$.
That's a key reason I hope we can one day find a cost-effective way to enroll our two EOY Hawaii weeks. I have no interest in messing with rentals, and while our plan is to always use our weeks in Hawaii, you never know what might happen in any given year, so being able to convert to points would give us an alternative currency to use.

We own 3 platinum weeks at the Ocean Club. We usually book weeks 51 & 52 with a second week 52. If my children don’t use one of the weeks I rent it out. I’ve never exchanged them. We are one of the few owners we know at the OC who enrolled our weeks. For this year and next year I turned them into DP to use them for a trip to China. The majority of owners do rent out their unused weeks! Honestly in my experience I’ve never seen anyone on DP there weeks 51/52. Good luck.
While I agree it's a tough time, it's a tough time to reserve unless you own the fixed week in general. But it's not impossible. I've gotten an exchange for week 52 previously.
